For those who have been having problems with the News and Weather channels on their Wii after a WiiKey install. Here is the fix.
First off I had the same problem, and just now I figured it out.
1: Make sure you are able to connect online via shop or internet browser. Once you have confirmed that you can connect online.
2: Turn on Wiiconnect24 and enable stand by. Power down the Wii, make sure the little light is orange to indicate it is on standby.
3: Now send a message to yourself or have a friend send you a message to your Wii console via e-mail address on your computer. Make sure your Wii is off and on Standby.
4: The blue led light should start glowing once the message is received via wiconnect24. Turn on the system open the message.
5: Now go to the News and Weather channel, both should start updating. Boom theres the fix.
The key is getting your Wii to receive a message via e-mail through wiiconnect24. I just did it after trying so many things and that got it working. Hope this helps.

Here is how:
Today I decided to register my work email address in my Wii to see what the process entails.
What I found was pretty interesting, Wii systems all have an individual email address at wii.com! Your Wii's email address is the letter "w" followed by your 16 digit Wii code @ wii.com. Registering an email address so that your Wii can send and receive email from a contact is a simple opt-in process. From your Wii, enter the email address and add a name to the contact. Your system sends the following email instruction to that address. Follow the instructions and you're finished. Emails on Wii actually look just like emails. And once set up, in my case, you can email youself reminders from work! Nifty.

You did not do it right. How can you even receive a message if Wiiconnect is off?
Wiiconnect has to be on, while the Wii is on standby. When you get the message the led lights must be glowing blue, then turn on the system.

The system says "wiiconnect24 is currently off" is displayed when loading weather or news.
Although, in the wii setting, wiiconnect24 is ON. Mail works fine, Shop channel works fine.
Again, wiiconnect24 is ENABLED/ON and wiiconnect24 standby is ENABLED/ON.
Forecast and News think wiiconnect is OFF.
Light was blue. Turned wii on, email was in the email box.

Thats a different problem. Not related to this fix.
This fix fixes the updating process of the News and Weather when wiconnect24 is on.
I never posted that this fixes the Wiconnect24 is on and the channels thinks it is off.
My problem was the Weather and News not updating, even when Wiiconnect 24 is on. Sending the Wii an e-mail through Wiiconnect24 fix the update process for me and other people.
That thread is relating to a different problem.
