Is it safe modding your dear wii ?

Hi...I'm quite interested to modify my wii to play backup games but I DO want to know that can I still connect and play online after modification ? As I believe more games will steal my time playing PvP on my wii in a not very far time like Mario Strikers Charged which has online feature, I really want to know is it safe to modification ? I heard that modded Xbox360s have been banned from Xbox Live and that's why I'm hesitating to do modification though I want to own every game that's for Wii and GC. I hope you'll advise me neatly.

I heard some mod chips can switch on/off not to be detected though every mod chip saying they have stealth mode. I wonder if it's, can I trust that and play online safely ?

First of all, please search before posting, this has been asked dozens of times already and I myself have made detailed responses, so I won't be making one of those now. Feel free to search for those threads tho. Anyway, basically there is nothing to be banned from. Nintendo does not provide a centralized service like live so there is nothing to be banned from and no way for them to ban you. You can also add a switch to any mod chip to disable it if you are uber paranoid.
