This is the exact email sent to me by my installer that I was directed to via mod-chip.com, telling me the Cyclowiz V2 may not work in my new Wii..
Sorry I have not replied but I have been trying to find some info about your wii. It seems to be a different version or something because one of the the chips is missing three of its legs that connect to ther main board of the dvd drive. You may not understand what I am talking about but basically I don't think the chip will work in your wii because of the those three legs on the dvd drive that are missing. The wiikey is completely installed but i don't think it is going to work. I have been trying to find out more about this wii but have not had any luck yet. Its up to you what you want me to do. If you want to see what i am talking about I can leave the wii open till you come by and actually show you. I will continue looking for what can be done about this until you decide what you want to do.
I believe the whole point of the "V2" was that it CAN work in newer Wiis, anyone know what the deal is? I ordered this chip about 1.5 months ago, so could there be a possibility of the site having sent me a V1 on accident? Or will my Wii really work... because frankly I think it's difficult to "unsolder" something. I just need a lead on what to tell this guy... thanks so much

I'll be nice.
The cut legs Wii's have been out for a couple months now, so I'd question the experience of your installer. There is no new chip designed that specifically works with this type of newer Wii. The only thing that changes is the installation method.
Basically, Nintendo has been cutting the 3 critical legs off of the chip making it very difficult to install a mod chip. It is not impossible though, and there are at least 2 different methods to overcome this.
One involves rebuilding the legs with wire, and another involves using a Dremel to get inside the chip to solder directly to the traces inside of it. Personally I use the Dremel method, and have successfully done about 10 Wii's with these cut legs.
There is a bunch of information here on this forum including pictures so you may want to have a look around for more information. And you may want to find a different installer.

First thing I would do is ask for your money back.
For one thing you say you purchased a Cyclowiz but the dumbass installer says he put a Wiikey in. Another thing is that all good installer/modder knows about the new revision of the Wii drive with the clipped legs on the IC chip. And if he know how to use google correctly then the info on how to mod these Wii's are easy to find. Even in this forum there are threads on how to mod these.
The chip will work your Wii. But the cut legs on the drives chip will need to be rebuilt (my preferred method) or you have to grind the chip a little bit to expose more surface metal where the legs where cut. That installer is wearing his ass hat and needs to remove it.
See my install photos to see what I'm talking about. Maybe you can print them off and send to him and tell him to wise up. BTW what is he charging you to install the chip.

He's charging like $40, but I don't really care I just really want this thing modded at this point heh. As long as the Wii isn't broken I'm not exactly gonna go on a rampage.

Ok, the mod chip's installed, but he did not do the cut-leg segment, i.e. it's not going to work just yet. I've looked all around, even used the directory at mod-chip.com, and can't find anyone else in my area. HOWEVER I have come across some sites that offer to do it for money; I don't know if I trust them though. Can anyone list some links to websites that are trustworthy so I can send them my Wii?

Yeah I paid him $20 instead of $35...
I know, kind of a stupid series of events, but I got his name from the mod-chip.com directories!! They're supposed to be trustworthy!
So any tips on to what to do now... I'm on campus and have no connects here

There are lots of guys on these forums offering it. I'd say, keep it public and ask for pictures of past chip leg re-builds. "Public" means that they will have to show their own work!

^ This is the site I'm looking at, but they don't provide me with an address to ship to... do I need to register with them or something? And I would send it to someone here but not as comfortable with it. And I don't know how to go about asking people if they go to U of I.

I do techincally live in Chicago but I'm at U of I now and won't be goin back anytime soon. By the time I do go back I could've sent in my Wii at xboxmods.com and gotten it back by then.
Sooooo really my #1 issue is whether that site is legit or not! Someone give me a heads up
