I. Homebrew Guide
First things first, you will need to know what firmware your psp has. This is very important. Simply power on the psp, under settings, go to "System Settings", then "System Information". Under System SOftware, you will see a version number. If you have a 1.0 or 1.50, you can load homebrew onto the psp. If you have anything above version 1.50, see the F.A.Q. at the bottom of this post for downgrade information.
Installation on v1.0 Firmware:
------------------------------
You will need a usb cable and plug into your psp, then your computer. Power on the psp, go to "Settings", then "USB Connection". The computer should then detect the PSP and show up as a "Removable Disk" (The letter will vary from computer to computer).
All homebrew software on 1.0 Firmware psp must be located under MS:\PSP\GAME (where MS is the memory stick on your psp). You may need to create a game folder if there is not one already. Say, for example you have downloaded a NES emulator. It will most likely come zipped, so first thing you will want to unzip it.
After unzipping the application, somewhere within the unzipped folders you will see a file called "EBOOT.PBP". Create a folder in MS:\PSP\GAME\ according to what program you are putting in there. In this case, we'll call it "NES". Now, simply copy & paste, or drag and drop (whichever you prefer) into the MS:\PSP\GAME\NES folder (replace NES with whatever folder you created.)
That should be all that is required to run homebrew on a 1.0 Firmware PSP. The method for 1.50 Firmware is slightly more advanced.
Installation on 1.50 Firmware:
-----------------------------------
For this step, I recommend "Sei PSP Tool". It should do everything that will be required (plus more) to get all homebrew working on your 1.5 Firmware psp. You can download it here:
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=gotodownload&downloadid=577
After downloading Sei PSP Tool, Connect your PSP to a usb cable, then to your PC. Under Settings, go to "USB Connection" and your pc should automatically detect the PSP as a "Removable Drive".
Check to see what drive windows has assigned to the PSP by going to "My Computer" and finding the "Removable Disk".
For this example, we'll say my PSP is given drive F:. Just replace the letter of your drive when you are following this instructions. Have whatever homebrew application you have downloaded unzipped and ready to install on the PSP.
Open Sei PSP Tool, and type a name for your homebrew application. NOTE: Some homebrew applications require you place it in a certain directory, so read the instructions to make sure. Now, select the EBOOT.PBP file that you want to load onto the psp by clicking the "...", then "From File" after "PBP File". Now, after PBP Unit:, select the drive letter assigned to your psp, here it will be F:.
More advanced users can customize the PBP file with custom ICON0.png and various other images and backgrounds, but that's a later guide ;-). The next option you have is to "Hide Corrupted image from list". Although this is not necessary, I highly recommend it. Normally when loading homebrew onto a 1.50 PSP, it will display a "Corrupted" image in your program list, Sei PSP Tool will hide this image for you, which is a very nice feature.
Next, click "Generate", then click "Export to PSP 1.5". You will then get a dialog telling you it has either failed or succeeded, if it fails, read the guide again to make sure you haven't missed a step.
Now you should be able to press O on the psp and go to "Game" then "Memory Stick" and select the program you just loaded using Sei's PSP TOol.
F.A.Q.:
-------
Q: Can I run homebrew on a v1.51 or v1.52 PSP?
A: Yes! You can now upgrade your 1.51 or 1.52 PSP to 2.0, then downgrade to 1.50 :D Check out the excellent HOWTO here (http://http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=10287) (BIG THANKS TO mookoo!!)
Q: So, what is firmware?
A: Firmware can also be referred to as the PSP's "Operating System". It contains all the code to make the PSP run correctly. There are 6 known firmware versions as of now, there are: 1.00, 1.50, 1.51, 1.52, 2.0, and 2.01 (JP only right now)

No, the tool won't alter anything on your psp other than creating a couple directories. You don't HAVE to use Sei's PSP tool, but I highly recommend it if you are new to putting applications on the psp.

There is a GBA emulator for PSP, but at the moment it doesn't work well at all, and I don't really recommend using it.
Well, right now there are two options for web browsers, either get wipeout and use it's built in browser or get the Tenchi no mon Stand-alone browser, you get get it here (http://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/tenchi_browser_with_loader(pspcrazy.com).rar) I believe instructions are included in the .rar file

anway, i just downgraded my psp and found that you need more than just the eboot. you need to get the whole file that involves the game. like for doom i chose to download the whole file for Doom on 1.50 psp. i seriously am a bit confused but im figuring it out. also does bombermanarena work on anyones psp?

the root is the main folder of your memeery stick ..the page that iso,music,video,mp-root is on.G:\ it should look like that but your computer is diffrent so it might be :something else:\
k the patapon problem is go to recovery mode: turn on your psp holding up the power button at the same time holding the r trigger.if that doesnt work keep trying or take out your battery then put it back in then hold r turn the power switch on and there should be a recovery menu after your at the recovery menu : go to configuration then find umd mode (curently your version) change that untill it goes to Sony NP9660.TO CHANGE PRESS X
is that doesnt work umn...i have 3.93 custom firmware so its sorta diffrent so i think you can press select and vsg menu will pop up .change usb mode or something like that to memery stick if its at flash0 or flash1 or flash2 or flash3 and the main prob is that it might be on umd so after that put the game you want into the folder iso
THAN ENJOY!

the best and only thing u can do is use pandora. it involves creating a pandora battery and a magic memory stick.
it gets harder and harder nowadays to do it on ur own without the help of someone using custom firmware.

someone at lan.st found an exploit in 3.90 that i dont think sony removed but it was like a vsh menu you can access when first starting up the psp forgot what the combonation was to get to it but if you know what youre doin you could probably flash the firmware manually:D

Hey, good thread.:)
I can't seem to find help elsewhere on my issue though, so you might be able to help I have M33-3 installed and I am wanting to play eboot games.
I tried getting an .iso extractor for them and running those, but that didn't work either.
Can anyone help me/tell me how to run PSX eboot's on my PSP?
Thanks!:D

ur kidding right?
place the EBOOT.PBP in PSP\GAME\[GAME_TITLE]. [GAME_TITLE] being whatever the name of the game is. that's it.

Sounds like you're not on a CFW. Be sure of this. Check that you're on the correct kernel in the recovery menu. Perhaps format Flash 1. Be sure you're using the correct Game ID in the EBOOT. If all else fails, perhaps re download/convert the game to a new EBOOT. Icetea always works nicely for me for single disc games, Python/PyPops for multi. That is until this 5.00 fiasco ;) Good luck.

How to Measure magnification
How can I see how strong a magnifying glass is?
I bought this magnifying glass and I want
to know how to test it to see how strong it is. I hear a lot of people talk about
magnifying and how strong the magnification is, but I would like to know the true
magnification of my magnifying glass. I have a few of them and some seem stronger then
others. How can I rate these? How can I pin a correct number on mine? How do the companies
that make these come up with these numbers.

Hi,
I'm new here, and Ive got a problem with running a few homebrews.
I'll take Bomberman Arena as an example:
psp-hacks.com/file/847[/url]
After downloading the file and decompressing, I get two files (that are already KXploit'ed):
__SCE__Bomberman_Arena
%__SCE__Bomberman_Arena
Ive put them into the ms0\PSP\Games folder.
I start my PSP and go to Games and select Bomberman Arena. It starts with the white screen and PSP on it, but then i get this:
Game could not be started (80020148)
Do I need a loader or something?
I am running 5.00 m33-3, and the kernel for homebrew is set to 1.50
I've tried to make it with PSP brew and tried different ways but nuthin works
:(:(
plz help, i cant find any solution, Im looking a few hours now...

8002*** means it's an error in kernel. Let me guess PSP Slim, or no 1.50 add on? If you have a Slim install time machine, if you have a Fat install the add on.
