Here is a tutorial to play GC-Linux through SD Gecko: http://www.elotrolado.net/wiki/Ejecutar_gc-linux_desde_la_tarjeta_SD

Why would you want to play GC-Linux in GameCube or Wii through a SD card?? Simply because you can, for example, play Neo Geo or MAME emulators without the need of a BBA and a computer!

Once you follow the play GC-Linux in a SD card tutorial, you can play MAME through SD Gecko:

Playing MAME, final steps (http://www.elotrolado.net/wiki/Ejecuci%C3%B3n_de_AdvanceMame_en_Wii)

PS.

I know the tutos are in Spanish. I simply want to let the people know about it being possible :) Have not much time since the moment, but if much people is interested maybe I do a translation.

Give the thanks to the GC-Linux Team and the author of the tutorials: Nuvalo

I am looking forward to a MAME build that can be run from a DVD without all the other trappings of a Linux distro. I would love to work on such a project, but I don't know what it would take to get it recompiled to run on the Gamecube/Wii, or if it would even be possible.

Sorry SD Gecko adapter is needed. It would only be possible to run small roms through DVD, which in the case of MAME isn't worth.

The reason? Because MAME need to use the ARAM from the SD card.
