So far the only solution avaialble for playing NDS roms is GST roms and neoflash kit (which is xg2005 512 or 1024 + a passme). g6flash.com has a product on its way that looks promising.
Most of the gba flashcarts work for NDS homebrew, though you will need a proper wifime setup (RALink wireless card and the software for it) or passme hardware in combination with the flashcart before you can update the firmware.
There is tonnes of info at gbadev.org forum on this. here is a quote from cocole on gbadev regarding a good, less costly cart for homebrew:
EFA and EZ Flash II are generaly considered good choices.
EFA comes in 256 Mb and 512 Mb (to my knowledge).
EZ Flash II comes in 128 Mb up to 1 Gb.
I personnaly recommend buying a card form a retailer in your geographical region. That will save you some cash in shipping (because I hate to pay something $30 and add $30 in shipping).
So here are my recommandations :
Europe -> TotalGBA.com (starting at €70 for an EFA 256)
USA -> Jandaman.com (starting at $65 for an EZ Flash II 128)
Asia -> winsunx.com (starting at $40 for an EZ Flash II 128)
As I live in Europe, I ordered the above mentionned EFA 256 form TotalGBA.com and service and cart were both flawless.
I personally have a f2a Ultra 1gigabit and it works great for HB and gba stuff on a DS, but as of yet there are no commercial roms that will work on any other than the mentioned xg2+passme/NeoKit (although many are hopeful of a patch/loader that will do just this with the "clean" roms that are being dumped nowadays)
