Microsoft has commented that the European price relationship between the Xbox 360 and Elite Premium will be similar to that of the respective SKUs in North America. UK marketing boss Steve McGill remarked that if you compare the price difference between the Elite and Premium in the US, then UK gamers would not be far off.

So about £40 more they are sayiny by that and with a premium at £280 retail price though discounted heavily everywhere does that suggest £320, which is not great value at all compared to ps3. It would need to be below £300 to really stand a chance if the ps3 rumour of £375 is true for new price as those buying the elite will be the type of person who scrutinizes those differences and want the whats missing. Of course there still will be those who just want to buy a new 360 when they already have one because of the colour, but the less said about them the better.

I dont know why MS put out the 360 elite. If it had a HD-DVD drive integratet ok, but it doesnt. So whats the point?

I dont know why MS put out the 360 elite. If it had a HD-DVD drive integratet ok, but it doesnt. So whats the point? It targets hardcore gamers that truly believe the 360 will be the winner platform. These are the ones who aren't concerned about pricing and most likely already have a PS3.

In other words, Elite is for a market niche until it replaces the Premium package.
Right now, at Elite pricing, you can get a 60GB PS3 for $499 which IMHO is of a better value. Yet the officially priced $399 Premium package still is the most attractive way to fully enjoy the XBOX360 world.
