yeh i agree, how many are multiple "out of warranty" purchases, and how many games are actually re-purchases,that are to replace scratched discs, that the 360 does, but doesnt according to microsoft.
and well DOH,to the fact its sold more, and more games that its competitors,as its been out longer..ffs..state the obvious why dont you.!
Wait!? Didnt they just fail to meet their target of 12million shipped consoles by ~200.000? Which would mean there are only 200.000 for selling world wide (and I really see plently of not yet sold 360s in my small town already...), sorry but I smell liars :s!

11.6 million is the number of shipped consoles ms announced last week. so i am guess they are saying because those are shipped and sold to retailers that they are sold consoles.
ms has been going back and forth with numbers like that. sometimes giving real sold numbers and other times doing things like this.

I would say that 11.6Million machines shipped to retailers is a very nice figure, specially when you take into account the competition from the aggressively priced Nintendo Wii.
All in all, after the initial boom in sales for PS3 during the American launch and then European launch, it is clear in a global picture that XBOX360 still outsells the PS3.. And is surprising how it still is in first place, given the fast moving numbers of Wii.
It's far to early to talk about winners this generation, but right now it is clear that PS3 is heavily under performing and Nintendo has turned all the odds on Wii making it a fast moving machine. XBOX360 is just keeping up to the selling standards of a successful machine, not showing anything surprising or disapointing in this department.

wii has turned the tides in its favor so far. i think if it wants to keep it that way that nintendo needs to be very opportunistic and needs to have tricks up there sleeves at events like E3.

360 is winning. A win is; Selling enough hardware to make a profit, selling enough software to make a profit, selling enough live accounts to make a profit, selling enough Market place content t make a profit. - Thats a Win.
Xbox 1 never did these things. So MS is winning if they make money. Outselling another console would help make more money, but it isn't needed to win.
Also Wii is not direct competition. Wii does not have the "Same Games" - When you say, I want to play DMC4, or GTA4, or COD4 -what console are you playing these on? When you want to play Mario Pickman Golf Carts 80 you'll buy a Wii. Not the same games.

nintendo is trying to get unique games. alot of people are tired of playing first and third person action games. nintendo by making a unique control scheme has guaranteed exclusive games from third parties.so far its working.

Thats what I thought nintendo was doing with the wii and why I bought one but so far its been unique controls on the same old tired games that doesn't really work and too many mini games. But I agree nintendo will be leading very soon. So they will uniquely be the first console to sell so well without games worth playing and just on its hype, thats an achievement not to be proud of lol.
And its clear 360 is going to sell well as already 360 owners on here want to buy the new halo version so just release new colours all the time and the same extreme fans while buy it again and again lol.

thats where perspective is a key to understanding whats going on. its not just selling on hype. the people buying them right now love the type of games coming out on the wii. even the mini games. there are gamers dissapointed so far with the wii but i think things will change by Christmas.
alot of the wii gamers are different and have different expectations. thats what is important to understand about it. it isn't selling off of hype and to most of these gamers the games are good, fun, and family friendly, and even bringing there families together to do something that they can all enjoy.
some gamers say the most fun they have had with the wii is during thanksgiving or Christmas, well for some families every time they play the wii is like that. multiple times a week. not just on hollidays, because it is something families are doing together.

Technically you failed your own expectations
So when you fail your own expectations there's no big shock that your disappointing consumers. Say what you say mean what you mean or don't say it at all. Most importantly don't put a spin on it. You came close enough that IMO you made it but you didn't so try being humble for once

WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!
Every single damn console has its different games and exclusives from the competition and it also has its same games like Fifa, spidermans, shreks and all different multi-console games!
Your comments has no bases and no ground, you are very very wrong, the Wii is winning and winning by a big margin!

I agree that the Wii is not in direct competition, most gamers I know own the Wii and one of the other two. Every "casual" gamer I know has a wii and thats it, and most havent owned consoles since the NES. The Wii will without a dobt win in sheer numbers sold, but I think they will get spanked in whats called the ARPU numbers, that the revenue on top of the console sale as in peripherals and games. Nintendo's biggest challenge isnt going to be selling the console itself but convincing the masses in their new target audience that its worth paying $50 a pop for a new game experience. It sounds stupid, but I myself know six different Wii owners that so far seem perfectly happy owning only Wii sports. I have mentioned other fun games to them but they seem to think the Wii is like one of those old pong consoles from the 70's and are fine with it.

The 360 IS actually making a small profit now. And Nintendo themselves have said that they aren't really trying to compete with Sony or the 360. The Wii probably will win, but try to get the facts straight next time.

Well give MS some props since after losing millions they are now making $75 bucks for every console sold
Also did you actually read what you linked to about Nintendo? Let me quote-
While the PS3 and the Xbox 360 battle for the high def crown, Nintendo's clearly doing its own thing with first the DS and now the Wii. But does that mean Nintendo is not a contender for next-gen winner? Company prez Satoru Iwata talks Wii strategy:
Our focus has been on how we could make those who had not been interested in TV games so far become interested. So we are not really thinking about competing with PLAYSTATION 3.
Then what are you thinking about?!
Although we are not really thinking about winning against Sony, we do hope to make efforts so that in the end, the number of units sold by Nintendo surpasses that of Sony.
Sounds like Nintendo isn't thinking about competing, but winning
He said hes not thinking about it, basically he doesent care what the 360 or PS3 are doing.
These are the 3 current gen machines, and just because you dont like the fact that the WII is making the 360 its b1tch doesent mean they aint in direct competition!
I can remember Nintendo saying the same thing about the Gamecube against the PS2 but everyone was shouting how they are in direct competition so yous jackasses cant say anything different this time just because Nintendo are winning!

Rofl. You're kidding me, you can't believe that the 360 sold 11.6 million consoles yet you say that the Wii is into the 9 Mil now? Obviously the 360 has only sold around 10 million but the Wii has just broken 8. Not saying they won't overlap the 360, cause that's obviously going to happen. But how can you say some website is lying to make a console look better when you yourself are lying to make a console look better?

Dude you need to make up your damn mind.
A while back, probably well over a month you said that VGcharts where very wrong and you had some info to show that the 360 had broken past 11 million, now your saying that they have only sold 10 million.
Also the wii has sold close to a million a month worldwide in may and june and i would take a good guess and say they will do close to the same in july so yes they have pushed past the 9 million mark.
They have sold almost half a million in America alone in june!

Apparently you didn't get what I meant, YOU should make up your mind because my post was saying that this whole time you've been praising VGChartz for being right and now you say they're wrong by claiming Nintendo has 9 million consoles sold when there's only 8 on VGChartz. Alright i wont shout or scream or insult anyone in anyway, i will take it that you have not looked at VGchartz in 2 days which says that the wii is now at 9.12 million consoles.

September and the Wii will be Number 1.
Its less than 1 million behind the 360.

Actually, it shows 9.19. But I must have missed the part where the Wii sales mean anything to gamers. I own a Wii, granted I don't really like it ATM, I did buy one and play it from time to time.
