I guess i'm gonna have to ditch some more of that money money! I wouldn't be surprised that M$ really releases a portable solution. If they do... it's gonna be a strong machine for sure.

If it has a cellphone for wireless multiplary and a flash drive for mp3s I am getting it.
Imagine if it was more powerful than the Wii. I heard the XBOX can still do stuff the Wii can't. It would be pretty sad.

Hmm, they are already billions in the hole at a loss from the current gaming division (console part), doesn't make too much sense to get even farther behind.

That's fine since lots of folks on there subsidize M$ by buying their crappy products otherwise.
To them it's "chump change". They have to keep all competitors at arms length, which is why they entered the game console market, to neutralize any potential competition rising from this industry.

Well no matter the numbers the architecture is not the same and one may best another here and there but i'd definitely say just give it some time. What we saw in the early days of Xbox had nothing to do with what we saw in the end. If they come up with a handheld it will surely best the PSP and knowing M$ i'd expect something slightly weaker then the original Xbox so they can port Xbox1.

If there was a portable xbox what media format would they use?
Cant see them using UMDs or rom carts.
Would be nice to be able to use my xbox collection but a dvd sized unit would be too be I think...

yep, there is one thing the xbox 1 can do that the wii can't: creep around under the tv with no games at all.
apart from that it the xbox 1 can still be the best media center on the world, of course you have to put in a bigger hd, solder a chips into it and transfer open source software on it, well nearly just like microsoft planned it. :D
as for me, if it gets games from nintendo, has a cell phone in it and is produced by apple and be called "iphone", yes i will buy one.
in case you wondered, the wii is not about "power".

they have other problems at the moment. having a "strong" machine brought them the trouble they have right now in the first place. the atari "lynx" had power too, but conceptional flaws which brought it down. sounds familiar.
their main focus at the moment is the 360 and that one is in trouble right now. unfortunately for me as i bought one some time ago, but at least i got 3 years of warranty now.
i ms really have a mobile console in their side pocket, then at this moment would be the worst time i could think of to release it. lots of people lost trust in ms products with recent quality problems, so i would not expect someone to pay $200 or more for another product with potential flaws while it's competitors products have been approved by the market. if you add all the problems with unsatisfied customers regarding the vista OS and that the zune has proven itself as a deadborn product i don't think that taking such risks would be wise. they need a big success and that could only be possible with the 360 at the moment.

That made me chuckle. lol
I'm hoping for decent controls. The DS stylus is a nice idea but it gets old pretty fast and I absolutely detest the PSP controls, excellent little media device though.

Rofl. No games, good one. The Wii totally has a whole library of games right now. As for XBMC, Not sure why you'd have to Solder Chips, there have been Solderless chips for 3 years, not to mention Softmods. Also, XBMC sucks as running media from a Harddrive, the best way for Media Playback is through a DVD. But, I'd buy one if they gave me an option to play my old Xbox games, even if they're burnt, as well as new handheld exclusive Xbox games.

actually, you don't have to open the xbox at all to get it to run XBMC. softmod + stock hard drive would work just fine with plenty of room left for emulators, etc. i mainly use my xbox to stream movies on my network so i can watch them on TV.
i'd love to have a wifi enabled portable xbox running XBMC. i'd never have to leave my bed again!

If they release this they are going to get there ass handed to them by the NDS.
MS are full of bad ideas lately, do they want to lose more money? The 360 is selling very badly right now and this handheld if its true wont even get off the ground, it WILL fail.

Lol. Network share is nice, but you still don't get the speed on DVD, middle ages or not.
IF you got an Xbox with one of the good DVD drives.
I think you got confused with the PS2, there were 3 types of DVD Drives in the Xbox, only one of them couldn't read certain types of media. And if you're modding your Xbox, why not just replace the drive with a Samsung?

You mean like the PSP is getting with the NDS? Yet Sony released it when the GBA was killing, yet not surprised how you forgot to mention that. Your trolling nature is really pathetic man, grow up please? For the sake of the forums.

That was the one that couldn't read most CDs, I had a Thompson before buying a Samsung replacement. Even then, it wasn't really that bad. It read almost every DVD I threw at it before it naturally died from reading too many burnt games.

you might have problem figuring out more complicated sentence structures, eh? explanation for 3rd graders: one thing the wii CAN'T do is creeping under the TV with no games at all. do you get it now? it is the xbox 1 with no games, thee wii has a great portfolio even right now. it has at least double or tripple the games of the 360 although it has been relaesed much later.
as for xbmc, i don't know what you have done wrong, but mine plays EVERYTHING from HD. only restriction is that you can use longer filenames when you play files from DVD. that's it.
IF you got an Xbox with one of the good DVD drives.
got a modified LG drive, works perfect.

I can't imagine Microsoft making anything high tech small and portable. You'll probably have to carry around a car battery just to run it for a couple hours. But I do dream of a day when I can pull out a handheld and play Gears of War. That dream came true for PSX games thanks to the PSP, so it's not a impossibility.

1000000% agree. XBMC accessing my shared media drive, along with High Speed Access to alt.binaries.movies.divx, and alt.binaires.tv Is the all mighty of home entertainment. DVD takes too long to burn!!!

Aw...Did I piss you off because I proved you wrong? :( Sorry. And it has double or triple the games of the 360? Really? I thought last time there was a NPD figures it showed about the same amount of games as the PS3. Oh, you must mean with the Virtual Console games, true but of course the 360 has almost 200 XBLA games as of right now too.
But you're right, LG drives for 20 bucks in the Xbox worked the best.
