A video prematurely displayed by GameVideos reveals that Gears of War is definitely heading to the PC. They quickly pulled the video but many downloaded it and have simply uploaded it to the likes of Youtube and other video services. The video shows some visual improvements, additional content, as well as achievements which implies the game is to take advantage of the Games for Windows Live service.

Where does the video tell us it's heading to PC ?
Maybe they removed the video because it was not true
Moreover in the video, it doesn't seem to be played with a mouse, the movement of the crosshair looks like it's "joystick controlled", don't you think ?

http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1893/Mark-Rein-Interview/p1/

"Have you formally acknowledged other versions of Gears coming?

Mark Rein: Nope. It’s an Xbox 360 exclusive.

And stays that way?

Mark Rein: ’Til there’s something else. (chuckles) People ask me, “Are you going to do it on PC?” Yeah, eventually…I don’t think that’s any great secret that we would like to do it on PC, but for now it’s a 360 game. Eventually we’ll get around to a PC version. I just don’t know when.

That’s worked successfully for Halo. Halo was a big seller on PC long after it kind of peaked on the original Xbox, and they’re doing the same thing now with Halo 2. We work at the pleasure of a publisher who thinks both of those are their platforms, so I think it’s ultimately inevitable, and obviously we’re a PC company."

it's been confirmed since AGES!!!!!!!!!!

It's not. If you've played any GFW title like Shadowrun for PC you'll know it support both keyboard and 360 controller.

There are parts in the video showing when you have to push A or X like on the console version. If this were for Windows I don't think this woud show up as identical to that of the console version. Couple that with the fact that the scenes they show in this video are not in the version of GoW on the Xbox makes me believe this is a GoW2 video for 360 and not GoW for Windows.

Who knows though, time will tell.

I think he meant GFW are required to support 360 controllers - not that you have to use them.

So on screen button prompts would be in the game for those who select 360 as control method.

I am far from convinced that is is a genuine PC trailer - that said, Gears for PC is about the worst kept secret in gaming.

I would expect it for xmas - after they have announced/trailered gears 2 for 360.

look at the video, if you look you can see it has A button on 360 contorller for cover, and X to pickup weapons. Its on 360, or at least a 360 controller.

Some people have hacked Halo 2 to run on Windows Xp, so I quess it would be very possible to port Gears of War over to :D

You guys have misunderstood... in order for games to be Games for Windows certified it has to support the Xbox 360 controller, wireless or wired, doesn't matter. Doesn't mean that it can't support other controllers, Microsoft is just trying to push for a standard for pc games. Kinda like for Vista whql certified, Microsoft is forcing driver makers to make both 32-bit and 64-bit.

I wonder if it will go the route of Lost Planet and have both DX9 and DX10 effects for Vista and XP.

I can't believe that no one mentioned that at 23 seconds into the video there is a popup at the bottom of the screen and it looks like the VISTA popup not the Xbox 360 popup. You know the popup for friend online, achievement unlocked, etc.

Not a single map on there is from gears 1. 2nd, the lancer doesn't fire rockets. 3rd that monster is new to the game. This is probably gears 2 and gears 1 will probably never hit pc. might be simultaneous launch with gears 2 for x360 and pc. I really doubt the developer would add all this material to gears 1 when gears 2 is coming in short time anyways.

"gears 2 is coming in short time anyways"

Define short? Not even announced officially yet and unlikely to even be in trailer form at E3.

Why are there so many posts trying to confirm this or disprove it. We've known since the game was released it was going to be THE 360 game to go to PC at a later date.

lol. Very mature, but it does support my theory that you are indeed a 15 year old who got his first console in the form of the PSOne from his parents on Christmas Morn' in 2001.

Well if they do add some new levels and weapons, hopefully they will be released on the 360 as well. Don't feel like building a PC to play games since I really hate sitting at a pc to play. Reminds of work too much, also I prefer the comforts of my 52" DLP and recliner when I'm playing games.

you can tell it's the PC version and not just b/c of the extra content but the video was exactly showing the game run at steady 60 fps at all time while the 360 version tends to drop FPS at certain moments throughout the game.

Yep, but you never hear about that because Gears of War is "The Best Game for the Xbox 360".

Sorry to butt in mate but how do you know it is running at 60fps and how did you measure it? No Game on PC runs at 60fps steadily. It all depends on your graphics card, if you have top of the range card you'll get good frame rates but you will never get a constant number.

I played GoW on the 360, and loved it. But by the looks of it the framerate barely even went into the 60s. It maybe went to 60 when you were standing still doing nothing, without anything going on in the background. But in the heat of the action you can easily tell that the FPS drops even below 30, it's so obvious too.

But anyways, look forward to picking this up for my PC.....

P.S. that new BOSS looks awesome!!!!

Not sure where you're getting the idea that it drops anywhere even close to below 50 in any part of the game. The game looks to drop more so in CGI than in gameplay which may sound bad, but is actually very impressive for Gameplay to "Out-Play" CGI.

might want to reword it yet again, the 360 pad isnt a "requirement" its optionally support in windows live games meaning you can play it its got full support but its not required.

I play a lot of shooters on PC and I always run FRAPS to show the FPS, so I pretty much have a picture in my head when it come to seeing a difference between 60 FPS and 30FPS. Not that 30 FPS is bad or anything... the game is still smooth, but obviously it is not perfectly smooth. Without and FPS counter, it looks too similar to really tell the difference "to the untrained eye".

Especially when your not paying attention to how smooth the game plays, but unstead you pay attention to all the craziness that is happening all around you in the game.
