One can say that this news is certainly no big surprise. The launch of Halo 2 raked in over $125 million in a single day of sales and Halo 3 is expected to be even bigger. As a result, sales of the Xbox 360 are expected to surge and Microsoft are fully expected to place more orders for Lite-On DVD-ROM drives for the Xbox 360 as Halo 3 launches in the third quarter of this year.

Lite-On IT has already started shipments of Xbox 360 DVD-ROM drives and the shipment volume began to increase significantly in June, the sources quoted Taiwan-based component makers, as saying. These makers supply Lite-On IT with parts used in the DVD-ROM drives, the sources indicated.

Lite-On IT is the third OEM maker of Xbox 360 DVD-ROM drives following Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology and Hitachi-LG Data Storage, the sources noted. Microsoft selected Lite-On IT to minimize risks and probably because Lite-On IT and Philips have set up the joint venture Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions and Philips has maintained long-term cooperation with Microsoft, the sources pointed out.

Why does it matter? MS will start out on the largest banning run at Halo 3's launch anyway...

Yeah, get those parts ready for all the repairwork you're going to be doing, MS.
