According to a respected Mexican financial website, Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim is now the richest person in the world, worth a massive $67.8bn, which is considerably more than Gates' projected worth of $59.2bn. His wealth is said to have rocketed dramatically recently following a 27 percent surge in the share price of his largest company America Movil of which he has a 33% stake in.


Mexico's telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim has overtaken Bill Gates to become the world's richest person, according to a respected Mexican financial website.

Mr Slim is now worth $67.8bn (£33.6bn), above Microsoft founder Mr Gates' $59.2bn, Sentido Comun says.

It said Mr Slim's wealth has rocketed into top place after the recent 27% surge in the share price of his largest company, America Movil.

He has a 33% stake in the firm, Latin America's largest mobile phone network.

Can't see why anyone would care to be honest, in real life what is the difference between $67bn and $59bn? Both of these guys could make every member on here millionaires and not even notice they had lost money.

Where did he get these facts? I just watched a news story on Bill Gates severl months back that said he was worth over 80 billion dollars. And that he makes 20 million dollars everynight while he sleeps.

wow...seems to me that 360 or PC software sales has gone down for mr gates. Sony should release their own OS or team up with Apple to finally wipe M$ out of misery.

Yep, because Apple is totally in the league of Microsoft. I mean, Mac OSX is top notch with Windows XP.

He is and he is not. You see there are two two "richest" ranking : one of known fortune (where The Sultan is #1 as far as I know ) and the other is estimated fortune ( its estimated because Bill Gates can't sell all of his m$ shares at the same price {massive selling of that amount of shares will cause major decrease in the company stocks })

Windows Vista is not even available for Dell PCs/notebooks. Anyways, i can run Windows anytime on a Mac.

Riiight, why buy a Mac when you literally can't upgrade it when the time comes anyway? You have to buy a brand new Mac, hey...sounds exactly like an iPod, huh? And besides, no one should get Vista for at least a year. It's like that with every new Operating System, let alone Windows.

Well, I'd say them burning the oil fields so the price and demand goes up for their oil is illegal, don't you think? lol. But you're right, there are people in the Black Market that are extremely rich that you obviously never hear about.
