In-game advertisting is something of a recent fad and the concept has been welcomed with open arms from major publishers which in turn have graced all types of games including FPS's and MMO's. Now in-game advertising seems to be venturing into new area's - namely Xbox Live achievements. A look at the list of achievements for EA's NCAA 08 Football shows sponsored goals including the Old Spice red zone perfection and Pontiac 4th quarter comeback, each achievement also correlates with an image of the company logo.

For all the times I come to this website for good gaming news, I constantly see things day in and day out that make me slap myself to regain sanity.

This is nothing new.

Fight Night Round 3 ANYONE?!

Burger King™ Achievement
Win The BK® Invitational Fight.

Dodge Achievement
Win the Dodge sponsored fight.

Everlast™ Achievement
Win the Everlast™ sponsored fight.

Under Armour® Achievement
Win the Under Armour® sponsored fight.

Dur.

Yeah this isn't very newsworthy, in my opinion. This occurred in Madden 06, NCAA 07, Half-Life 2 for Xbox, PES, PGR 3, etc.

Speaking of PGR - this kind of "shocking" news would have to equally apply then to the cars and events sponsored in the game.

There's a vast difference between in-game, actual advertising (ala CS:Source on the more modern side of thing) versus company's sponsoring portions of game content (NCAA having the coca-cola coin toss, for example, in NCAA 07 - something also found in the ESPN broadcast equivalent of years past).

Realism or attempting to recreate a realistic atmosphere differs from bringing reality into a game in the form of "BUY THIS!" banners appearing.

Turning gamers into corporate monkeywhores, that's just great. Thank God for classic emulation.

wow, glad I dont buy EA sports games.

then I would have to see an old spice or dodge icon everytime I turned on my 360 with one of those games in the tray (hmmm, now it makes sense). Its one thing to have realistic ads in sports games, but its not ok to oversaturate it like monday night football which is FREE to watch. In other words, I think stadium ads and stuff are great, I think TV commercial like ads are crap. and this is beyond that, a permanent ad in my achievments.

looks like we have to pay for EA's licensing of the NFL with a rosterless 2k game (im counting on workarounds for that) and viewing all kinds of unsubtle yet subliminal corporate ads that had to be thrown in to keep profits on par with previous versions.

Not everything EA makes is crap, it's just that alot of the games feel regergetated. Nobody hates EA for the good games they release, they hate them for the countless milking of IP's and blatant hunger for profits rather than love of creating games (im talking about the heads not the devs). not to mention complete abuse of the live marketplace.

if u have the game disc in, it shows ur last 4 achievments with the icons since the latest dash update. that means if the last achievements i got were sponsored, i will be looking at those icons everytime the game is in the tray at dash.

I understand the whole recreate the tv viewing experiance, and frankly, it just doesent fly. here is an idea, EA says they want to put you on the field like ur experiancing it from the players perspective, right. so how about not taking me out of the stadium to simulate watching tv all the time. how about just the stadium ads, the announcer, the wind, the sweat, and the crunches, I dont need the ads, i really don't. I would rather experiance it how the player does on gameday.

Dude i cant beleive how full of crap your are. EA is the heaviest ad user period. they put more ads in games than any developer or publisher, period.
am I gonna buy the orange box, yes. But I'm sick of EA's attitude (including their gametesters) and what their doing to the industry for the consumer.

I've never seen an icon with the logo of a company for an achievment, if there are others that do this, I have the same gripe. I feel gamers are the only audience to be heavily advertised to in premium content that they pay for, and EA is at the forfront of the problem. so they are the ones that are focused on.

save the ass kissing for work please.
