Hey all, ive got a wii with wiikey install but having a problem. sometime i can run back ups fine had it working for a week with no problems a while ago but every so often the back ups will not play (all of my back ups).
I eventually leave it till the next day of something but it will then start working, for example ive had it working with no fails since last wednesday but then on sunday it wouldnt boot backup and have only been able to boot one back up today.
The wii was bought with the wiikey installed but after having this problem i took it to a guy to get it fixed, he repaired the wii and reinstalled n said it worked fine but a few days after it failed again.
cheers for any help. Roo

Check your install job and make sure that all of the solder points are correct and nothing bridged. Once you are 100% sure that is clean, then suspect your DVD media. I use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's burned at 8X with IMG Burn. I am also using a LG DVD Burner (although that shouldn't make much of a difference.)

Yep i would only use Verbatims or Taiyo Yuden (proper one's) as stated above
Defo sounds like a media issue your having

Ye tried Verbatim and different dvd burners and different media but still no luck.
Like this is the second time its been chipped and stil the same problem + the wi never moves so it seems odd that it can work for a week ( over 10 hours of play..prob more) and the stop reading backups.
Thanks for the respnoces. Roo

does any one know if this problem of randomly not playing backups could be because the wiikey could be faulty or does it sound more like a problem with the wii itself or the installation?
thanks for any help. roo
I just did a WiiDuo install. The blue led lights up but backups (tried one so far, burned on Verbatim dvd-r, 8speed, Pioneer 112D) don't work.
I thought the blue led meant the modchip is working ?

I'm thinking its your media, I'm using CHEAP media GQ 16x DVD-r from Fry's (~$20/100) and they seem to be working fine for me, haven't had a problem in months

ive tried 2 different datawrite disks, a cheap RW and some verbatim, written at low speed and with 2 different writers but still backups will work sometimes but not others.

Have obtained two other media now (platinum and commodore), will try again and update here :)

How does the disc sound inside?
I came across a random failure case yesterday because the drive was too tight lol. Though this should cause some strange noises.

The wii sounds fine, drive spinns up (when using backups) and then stops and says disk not recognised...where as a real dik would spin up and then get abit louder when game loads
so ye the drive sounds fine, alot quiter than my friends wii with cyclowiz but his was one of the first wiis out
cheers

It definitely sounds like a burn/disc issue.
stop all uneeded processes and don't run anything else aside from imgburn.
It may come down to adjusting the pot, I hope not.

I have same problem of drive sometimes spinning up and reading the media. It will always spin up originals. Can go several days while backups work. Then suddenly stop. Now I read a lot that this could be a media problem. I know this is all wrong, at least in my case. I have used generic dvd+r, verbatum dvd-r, burned at 16x 4x 2x. Used Nero and ImgBurn. They will all work, or none of them. My soldering job was tight, clean and wired. It just stopped working a couple minutes ago. I turned the thing on with backup inside and it spun up and the game screen showed in the wii menu. Click on it and says not recognized eject and reboot. So you are not the only one who is frustrated about this. Have done recent update of key too that was supposed to remedy this problem I had hoped. I have even before the update formated the wii and unplugged in for some time, reinstalled firmware (all suggestions of other that said this worked for them) nothing??? Then all of a sudden I thought I should try it again and it worked. This has happened 3 or 4 times... I'm stumped.

same problem also here,my wii-wiikey doesnt read warioware no matter how many times i reseted/ejected/powered off 3 months now. The weird thing is that it used to play fine. Anyway,i ve noticed that games that are burned into verbatim have less problems than those which are burned into TDK

i have to use verbatim - i went through several different types of media.
its verbatim DVD+R's
also i have to burn at 2X or i will get errors.
That is so funny you mentioned Warioware.
That is the only game i have constant problems with even burning it slow! i have to walk up and take the disc out and put it back in - repeat etc.
and good luck trying to get the disc to play the opening cut scene.
so far no problems with mario galaxy though.
what we need is a wii harddrive :)

It is one of the best multiplayer games for wii and yet we can't play it (the disc is not scratched of course). It makes wii's dvd driver to make a loud noise,i havent encountered any similar issue with other game. But some other games wont play all the time, sometimes i have to put out the disc, power off wii because it gives an error message etc etc...
I burn them at a low speed,2x or 4x. Do you think that - or + makes any difference?

What is the orientation of your Wii? I found that my machine crashed a good amount when vertical but since switching to horizontal I haven't had any problems. May not solve your issues, but it's worth a shot.

Nice thought but my wii is always in horizontal position. I dont think that orientation matters because nintendo is supposed to have looked over the issue before releasing wii in the market. I dont know,i think that all of those are chip related issues and to be more precise wiikey problems. Do owners of cyclowiz have problems like those?

well . I have a wiikey . always use cheap media , burn on 4x and all my backups work fine.
Only thing is ,if I run a ntsc backup on my pal wii after playing a pal game(and vice versa),I have to reset the console for the other region game to work ( red light , not yellow)

cheap media works fine for some, not really for most.

I moved the wii to another location and I saw the power light blink yellow for a sec and now I have axcess to backups, Im off to play!
i dont get it but here we go. ....
I swear i have moved it before and backups worked again, this is not the first time. I have tried every logical response in the past and nothing worked. I soldered and didn't tape the chip in place and maybe this is the problem. It falters hanging in some way. I have never had it work on the upright position. Every time I have got it to begin reading again was on the horizontal. Anyway I moved it again this time. I should have taped it down I guess.
Working now, not going to touch it. but eject game. insert game.
Man I tried everything too. Go Galaxy Go
Buy this game!
