Hi guys. Im new to the Wii area of the site but am somewhat well known at the PSP section. I have had a Wii since about march or may I think. I have only updated my software once I think. I know its not one of the new ones with missing legs or anything as that all happened way after I got the console.

Heres my situation. I am a fan of softmods and I was waiting around on one for the Wii (Xbox is the greatest thing ever) but I found out there was a Bleach game for the Wii in japan. I am a HUGH fan of the anime and must have that game lol. I am trying to find a US seller somewhere on ebay but pickings are slim and its a decent amount of money. I am downloading a ISO I found but without a mod to play it its usless.

I am good with hardware mods but I dont like doing things to explcit on the Wii yet. Its still to expensve and hard to find.

I need a mod or modchip that meets the following criteria:

1) Can play NTSC-U and NTSC-J official Wii software

2) Can play NTSC-U and NTSC-J DVD-R backups software (selfboot, just slip the burned software in and its thinks its real. No swapping or menus or anything like that)

3) Is EASY and low risk to install. I can soldier but I dont want to have to do it to very small points. Easy install is best for me and something that will be ok in there, dont want it to flop around or anything lol.

4) Last is kinda optional. I would prefer something that can be updated and not locked out by Nintendo.

Whats the cheapest solution that meets the above criteria. Please let me know and thanks for reading my wall of text. :D

Cheapest is the open source chips. Or you can just buy a "WiiJ" which is already programmed (with your choice), and atvg or whatever sell it for $3.

They won't be locked out but there is a rick of bricking if your console is not updated to an update above or equal to the update that is sometimes contained on the games, if you update with another region then you will brick the console.

Playing regions on others is hit and miss, though NTSC-J on NTSC-U has more chance than PAL usually. Check the region compatibility list.

Bleach Wii Shiraha Kirameku Rinbukyoku Is confirmed for what you want, it says YAOSM 1.7, thats one of the open source chip software, but it will most likely be the same on all the other chips.

Thanks for the reply. So what you are saying is that if I try to play a NTSC-J game and it wants me to update my console it will brick since its a forign region update? Basically stay away from updates other then US ones?

Open Source means anyone can program for it correct? Can you link me to the site you are talking about. Are those chips easy to install and will they do everything I need them to. Its a bounus if boots gamecube backups to ;)

Sorry for being such a Noob on this, but I really want to get it right the first try. Thanks!

No.

You can play other region discs even with updates.

If a disc had an 2.2 US update, and I ran it on say 2.1 PAL it would try to update it, if it was 2.2 PAL then it wont update. (Although it seems to show it does try or something? not sure).

Although I wont hold any responsiblity for anything

If you can't bring yourself to trust drsquirrel (no reason not to) you can always patch your games with wii brick blocker (search for it in this forum) which removes the update from the disc. Then you can run it without any risk of bricking, however make sure you are updated to 2.2 so the games will actually run.
