I have a NTSC/U WII purchased last week. I installed the WiiKit Chip, WiiKey Setup Disc v.1.2 loads perfectly. Originals Load Perfectly, and GameCube Backs Load Perfectly. I have 2 WII backups, MArio Party 8 (NTSC) and Res Evil 4 WII Edition (NTSC). Mario Party 8 Will show on the Menu screen when I select it, it will go blank and then I get a DRE. Tried verbatims dvd-r, and Sony dvd+r. Res evil Will show on the Menu, when I click, it Loads Fine when I select "New Game" screen goes Blank, and I get a DRE. Once again, the setup disc on both media boots Perfectly everytime, and GameCube Backups on the Verbatim Boot Fine. Any Ideas would be Appreciated. :)

What burner are you using?
What software are you using to burn backups?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm using a Toshiba TS-H552 DVDRW DL drive, Burning with ImgBurn @ 2x.

If there was a Problem with the Chip, it wouldn't Boot anything Correct?

OK, I don't know why, but I think I solved this issue.

Could be a work around for others experiencing the same DRE on Wii Backups.

1. Start Wii
2. Insert Backup and start the game like normal.
At this point if you get a DRE, eject the disc, it should say "Please Insert Gamename disc" . reinsert disc. should load fine.
if your back-up loads fine and you go to start a new Game and You get the DRE, do the same as above, Eject disc, wait for "Please insert gamename disc" and reinsert and Play.

This worked on both backups I was trying, and my son has been Playing Mario Party 8 for about an hour with No Problems.

I hope this helps someone, Perhaps if others can confirm this, one of the mods could write up a sticky with this trick.

I only ever use Verbatim discs on my Pioneer 111D. Never had a problem with a backup except for aa Gamecube game where the modchip itself is probly incompatible.

I suggest experimenting with other burn speeds. Burning that slowly with new media/hardware can be bad. Try burning 4-16x if you can. My verbatims work fine at 8x, and Memorex has been good for me up to 16x.

WOW I've never been told that before, everyone always say's "burn SLower" , I will definately give a faster speed a try and see what happens. BTW after the eject trick the games usually get the DRE after about 1 hour then you have to leave the Wii off for a bit and restart it, then do the trick again, Makes no sense to me lol.

If the chip was wired wrong the backup's would not run at all, correct?

I guess you are correct. You could try burning at 4x, since my verbatims work perfectly when recorded at 4x (no DREs at all, games are always recognized).
Also you could check if it is your burner that's faulty, because a good burn doesn't only depend on the media, and also on the burner too.
