Hey all, I'm having trouble and looking for suggestions. I installed my Cyclowiz the other day. I connected the Wii to power and checked to be sure that, after a momentary delay, the Green LED on the chip came on and stayed solid. I also tested the reset switch for disabling the chip, and that seemed to work as well.
I reassembled the wii and connected it back to the TV. It seems that it will still play originals, but won't read any backups I've tried. It also won't read the 3.0B update disc.
I have a NTSC-USA console, and am trying USA version backups.
This Wii was purchased @ retail in mid January.
I've tried Verbatim DVD-R-DL, Maxell DVD-R, Maxell DVD+R discs.
I used Nero to burn the ISO's to disc, at 4x speed. Nero wouldn't let me choose a speed any lower.
Also, I followed the install11.pdf guide, since the install12.pdf link is broken. My chip IS one with the 4 gold pads, should the install process have been different somehow or the points on the chip different because of the different version of the chip?
Any suggestions on where I might be going wrong would be greatly appreciated. I'm likely going to take the thing apart again this afternoon and re-solder everything, but I'm fairly certain all my points were good and nothing bridged. This is my first Wii chip install, but I've done a bunch of Xbox chips in the past, so I'm not completely new to it.
Thanks!

Cyclowiz came in the branded bag and has the 4 gold pads on it, which I am given to understand means it's a V2.
Unfortunately, I didn't take note of the chipset when I had the wii apart, so I couldn't tell you that until I get the chance to tear it down again later today. However, it was purchased new @ retail in January of this year, if that tells you anything.

I had a similiar problem on a friends wii, which I modded with a cyclowiz.
You are going to have to check all the connections. It was this wii which made me start using wired installs instead of that quicksolder method. The power supply points (G, V) are circular holes in the cyclowiz and one these may not be soldered to the board of the wii. Did you use flux? What happened with me was the solder filled the hole on point G but didnt take to the wii board, however it was making contact with the wii board. So when I tested it everything was ok, but when I re-assembled it and carried it downstairs to play test it - not a peep.
Hope this helps

Thanks TheLaw, that makes sense, and could well be what's happening here. Unfortunately, I'm away from home until this evening, and can't check it out until later. Thanks for the tip!

I took the chip off and re-soldered everything today, using wires for the G and V points, but still quicksoldering ABC. Same results.
I also didn't reassemble the wii completely before testing, so I can clearly see that the Green LED is on under the drive, I can't figure out why it won't read.

Also, I just tried burning a disk with imgburn, (the Cyclowiz update disc) and it isn't recognized by the wii either.

Could be a dud cyclowiz, have you another to test it. Strange:confused:

FWIW, I have now tried a total of 5 different types/brands of media, burned on 3 different machines, but still no luck.
Has anyone here installed a cyclopswiz in a D2B wii? Does it work right out of the bag, or is there something I'm missing? Because of the outdated info on their website, it's a bit confusing as to whether it works before the 3.0b upgrade or not, but if it doesn't, there would be no way to get the 3.0b upgrade on the chip, since it couldn't read the disc, right?

Does the light stay green after you insert a disc? If not, it may be the power supply of the wii...

I went ahead tonight and completely removed the chip a 2nd time, and installed it wired instead of quicksolder. At this point, I don't have a TV to connect it to, I'll do that a bit later, but it seems to be showing the same behavior.
Cyclowiz support suggested via email that I describe exactly what happens with the LED as I insert a disc. Here's what I sent them:
Starting with Wii Not connected to power
Connect Power cord
Waited about 30 seconds with Red LED on front of Wii
Pushed Wii Power button
Cyclowiz LED turns on Solid Green after about 10 seconds
Insert Disc
Disc Begins to spin up
Cyclowiz LED turns off briefly, about 3-4 seconds
Cyclowiz LED turns back on, solid green
Disc stops spinning

thats a long delay for the chip to register in my experience the chip comes on instantly flashes off for a second while the drive initialises and then stays on this whole process takes no more than 2 or 3 seconds
have done 5 units now including 1 d2b and found the d2b to suffer from the update cycling issue but thats all

I'll see if I can get my hands on another chip. If that doesn't work, I'm ready to give up... I've spent more on different brands/types of blank dvd's and such trying to get this to work than I spent on the chip!

I have a similar problem with my cyclowiz install. It will read dvd-r the best and it will only read the cheap staples ones once or twice then nothingnever again same with memorex dvd+r's. The old teon dvd-r and memorex dvd-r seem to work alright unless I leave it plugged in then it will only read original games and I have to unplug it for a couple of minutes and reboot it with a backup installed and it will read it. I have been too lazy to check the connections to all the points lately so I am not sure if that could be it but when it was put back together all the points look good. Does anyone have a similar experience like this?

Replacing the chip solved the problem, and now 8 of 10 of the Cyclowiz 3.0B upgrade discs I burned work, and one game. The only 2 that didn't work are DVD+R discs.
