Hello guys as you can see this is my first post an just would like some clarification on wii updates. I have a wiikey an I noticed some games weren't working today until i updated the console an boom they worked so I decided to do a little research on updating the wii in the forums an got a little confused. Now some games have an update in them an if you update threw the game theres a chance of you bricking your console rite? So what I'm asking is the update for the console or for the game? I read that you can update the console threw the wii menu which would be safer so as long as you update the wii threw the wii menu you would be good? An also what causes the console to brick after the update the fact that your console is a ntsc system an your trying to update it with a pal system? Thanks guys sorry for the newb questions its just that I'm new to wii an just got a little confused with all the different post I've read.

The only thing that you need to worry about is updating your NTSC console with a PAL game if you are not already at the latest firmware.

To get this firmware as you said just go through the wii control panel.

Just make sure that before you run a PAL game check if anymore updates are out, otherwise you will be fine.

Alternatively you can use the Wii brick blocker 1.3 program to remove the updates from games if you don't feel safe. Search the site for it if you want it.

ps. The latest firmware should be 2.2U

I am a bit confused as well. I have a NTSC-U Wii and I updated my Wii to the latest firmware version from the Wii menu just now. I then try to play the PAL version of Mario Striker. I was prompted with a system update dialog box with only an "Okay" button. Is it safe for me to update my Wii?? I think I am just going to go use the Brick Blocker, but I just want to know if I am suppose to get the System update dialog box or not.

Thanks in advance,
kvnchg

Exactly, If you are playing games from your region you will not brick it.

If you have the latest version then it is safe to update that way, the system checks if you have the latest version first then does not actually apply a new patch. No harm in using the Brick Blocker though, always the safest.

Go to your Wii settings and it should be in the corner
