Working on my first D2C, will post pictures when done. Actually i'm done with the grinding, it's just I ruined my fine tip and have to get the new tip in. Here are the pics of a grinded away IC. The whole notion sounds scarier than it really is. You just have to take precaution... here are my 2 cents
1. Always have all your tools ready.
2. Use the lowest setting on your dremel, and be gentle. Don't be scared, but don't be reckless.
3. Grind, then look, grind, then look.
4. Use a compressed air-can to safely and effectively blow away debri.
5. Always use soldering paste/flux and a fine tip, world of a difference.

Will update after I get the fine tip, whenever that will be.

you think there is a big risk of breaking the chipset?
it looks real scary with these pins so exposed

The internals of the chip isnt that big, its only the size it is due to how many legs there are. There is easy enough room to play with. :)

i am trying too.. i got one wire on it but i am not really satisfied. I think my tip could be better I have to press it long before it will melt. The shop said it was the smallest tip they got.

I managed to do one today with succes. But it's not easy. Took me 20 minutes to get the three wires on. Normally I mod the wii in 20 minutes from beginning to end.
I doubt the use of this mod though, maybe in two or three weeks there will come a solution that is easier? Anyone know?

So I just got word that my order of the tip didn't go through, I'm just going to go to a shop tomorrow and get finer tip.
I think someone on this forum was practicing on old broken IC's before attempting this... probably the smarter thing to do... I just went ahead and dremel'd... from previous experience (years ago)... but I think I would advise that with everyone... practice on old stuff you don't need/care anymore, then when you're comfortable move on to the real thing. Be careful, but be confident! You guys are better than you think
*will update with pictures later*
I think there's a couple of guides out there, I don't think any really stand out... but I think if you read 3 or 4 of them, things will smooth out.

ok sorry for the shitty 1 minute paint job but im at work so i dont have any time painting the mona lisa here. my idea is a block that sits on the exposed part of the cut of legs and it will lead to contacts on the block that can be soldered too much easier .. once again sorry for the shitty paint job

It's an interesting idea... but I think once the legs are exposed, I'd just solder my wires to it directly.
