Team Xecuter has lifted the lid further on their WiiFree mod kit for the Wii. The kit comes in two versions, one with a PIC progammer and one without. They claim they have secured a good price on their components and the 'low price' will be confirmed in just a few days.

Part of the fun of wiifree is making your own chip, building your own pic programmer, and programming it yourself. Are they really trying to squeeze every penny out of everything they can? I'm really curious how much they think they can get out of this one...

When at best you can pop a chip in a dil socket for about 60pence I'd be willing to pay about £1 for a product like this?
Can't see it being too commercially viable.

I couldn't help but ask a noob question but what exactly does this do and is it better than the wiikey?

I see it as a good thing. People wil still need installs, and this is a great way to make an external socket for their WiiFree.

Too Little Too Late - as said already they do the WiiFree Kit for $9

plus as well as getting the WiiFree from eurasia it is nice to see other peeps also using yaosm chip and so you can throw a yaosm in there

A few things I don't quite get about the WiiFree connector kit though is that it seems to connect point 4 of the pic chip on this connector kit
WTF for ?
The yaosm doesn't use pin 4 and so far as I can find out neither does WiiFree

They both use the usual 1, 5, 6, 7 & 8

and both chips use 2 leds - pin 2 and also pin 3 that function once connected to ground (pin 8)

So dunno why they (Eurasia) say led function doesn't work on yaosm coz it is using the same wiring
(still not sure why pin 4 is being offered - that is the wiikey point that as far as I know only wiikey uses)
LED & YAOSM is fairly recent but as Eurasia is offering 1.7 you would think that it would work with the pcb the same as the 2.45 WiiFree

Anyway Team Xecuter you are too late, can't see them doing the pcb's with pic chip for under $10

Think they should leave the programmer option alone - if they go for a cheap JDM type of programmer and put their name/mark up on it it would probably be just as cheap for people to purchase say a Willem programmer
(I did try a JDM one but couldn't get on with it - could be a faulty one or a little bit picky with the settings but found my old Willem & winpic800 just done it without any hassle)
