I wonder if anybody has told the people over in those forums that it isn't the game but the console itself. The game puts a larger than normal strain on the system which in turns probably quickens the 3ROL's.
Stop complaining about the game already!

Puts too much strain on the console. Yeah better don't use the power and create games with shitty graphics physics gameplay etc. /irony off.

I have a launch era 360 and i have had zero problems thus far... i really think that people who have serious problems with their systems just don't take proper care of their equipment. Sure, the 360 may be more prone to failure but that escalates under certain conditions that i'm willing to bet these particular consumers are subjecting their hardware to, whether they realize it or not.

So everyone should have to build an $300 specially made constant temperature bacteria free compartment that keeps the 360 from slightly moving and at a temperature that will keep it from warping to prevent disk scratches, fire hazards, & 3 Red Lights. Shouldn't be a problem with just sitting it on the carpet in front of the TV. Never has been before. Why just with the 360?
And if you try to associate improper care to this does that mean that the Nintendo & Playstation owners are just a smarter group of people?
Either way it looks bad all around.

leaving all fanboy crap to one side for a minute.:(
i have gt4 on ps2. 1 of the challenges is a 24 hour endurance race. and i loved that challenge.:)
would i like to see the same challenge on the xbox360 = yes. :)
if it did exist on the 360, would i risk playing it = no f****** chance.
i really like my 360, but it failing if i play on it certain ways, is not something any of us should have to worry about.
i just dont get it, do microsoft just not care about their reputation
there recent denial of the problem reminds me of comical ali saying that the iraqi army were crushing the infidels, while the US tanks were arriving in the background.

I have never played GT4, so when you say a 24 hour endurance challenge, you actually played the game for 24 HOURS straight??
If that is the case... then no way would the 360 be able to do that. It would probably explode around the 8 hour mark.

ok real now, WTF is wrong, i left my ps2 for days if not a week on when i first bough it because i had no memory card, and you play a 360 for 6 hours, and you have to call the firefighters to save your house, or have to go buy a new 360 each week because th eprevius one got 3 red lights, or you go buy a new elite and say "OMG MY PROBLENS ARE SOLVED" just to have it dead by a month, and if it was just some guy or 2, but 100s of ppl with same problem you know is a manufacturing problem, so all you fanboys leave that crap away and accept the console have issues.

Sometimes my Xbox360 has been running from like 9am till 2am, ie. 17 hours straight with no problems whatsoever. I play a game for some hours, then I download a bit, play another game and watch a DVD. The machine is often on for like 6-7 hours a day, playing games, listening to music, watching dvds and even when stressed a lot with games like GoW, it doesn't get any hotter than my PS2. That said, it does seem there are some problems.
But remeber, there were LOTS of problems with PSX and PS2 had their share of problems two, in particular with the DVD drives not reading discs too well, being nigh on EXTREMELY picky.

what i dont understand is that if there are a lot of people with multiple problems with their xboxes why noone started a lawsuit? (well, i didnt hear or see a lawsuit on the net).
what i really dont understand is why microsoft didnt solve this problems that everyone is complaining about. it seems that the design of the console is crap and there is no way to fix it, is it?

no
the problem arises from motherboard flexing due to thermal expansion from heat-cool cycle, so according to someone on neogaf (which I agree), leaving it on all time at constant temperature will actually prolong its life
however once you turn it off after a 24 hr marathon, let it COOL, then it'll probably red light in the next day

If you have your 360 on the carpet, then you might want to move it. it didn't matter as much with older consoles and didnt kill a wide amount of sytems, but leaving my gamecube on the carpet is what broke it. Nintendo said something along the lines of, the static electricity and dust on the carpet is a not a good thing (I think it may even say it in the manual). Nintendo fixed it for free (1 month out of warranty even) but told me I shouldn't put my system directly on the carpet. So I imagin the same would be applied for the 360.
this was just at the person or ppl who seem to laugh at the idea of not putting there 360 on the carpet.

i haven't played mine in a while either im still at the part on rogue galaxy where you fight thaat grey guy at the temple and desert claw saves you
thats a really good game
I really hope MS gets sued over all of this crap, the 360 needs to be completely redesigned!
that said, I've had a 360 for 9 months...with no problems. The longest I have ever played a game straight is 6 hours....I'm just a casual gamer.
My 360 is in my AV rack, along with mt reciever, dvd player, & cable box, its been there since day one...and its horizontal (which I'm sure is better for it, cause heat rises, if its horizontal it has a bigger place to go).
even if mine broke, I'd still buy a new one...since I have like 40 games for it.

Well I remeber when I got gta sanandreas for the ps2 and my launch day PS2 laser could'nt take the dual layer disc and the large amount of loading and killed it but that console was old!!!! and if forza is making a relitively new console die thats pretty shoddy!! I'm really really hoping the 360 doesent crap out again before the new GTA is released, I'm almost a bit weary of playing it! How craps that!! I take really really good care of my consoles aswell!:confused:But I would like to play it a just bit without worrying about it breaking again!!
DerekD1982
06-27-2007, 10:44 PM
Its a simple FACT that the 360 design is shite, lets be honest about this.
I used to think the ps2 was bad because of the lasers but the 360's problems are just getting out of control. At least with a ps2 you could just replace the laser. With the 360 you have to use elastic bands, a heat gun and even towels for hell's sake.
Next we will be cutting windows in the top of the case and putting stocking over the hole to allow more air in.
I keep seeing these posts about breaking 360's and on everyone you always get the fool that says "mines still working, no problems". The post is about 360's with problems and we dont want to know that yours is still working.
If you dont have any input or something constructive to say then keep your hands of the keyboard.
There is a big problem no doubt. I have fixed atleast 10 360's with the heat gun and 1 with replacing the paste which i have to keep changing every 6 months or so and im not looking forward to stripping down 10 360's and doing the heat gun trick again when they go off.

I have been playing Oblivion for several hours each day (3-10) and so far no problems even though my 360 has only 3 inches free on either side (it is horizontal) and an inch or so on top (nothing on bottom as it is sitting on top of my original xbox). It is a pro system upgraded to a 120GB hard drive with an unmodified Hitachi DVD drive. The team is CSON and the lot number is 0635 and no extra cooling is used.

Prevent the Console from Overheating
Do not block any ventilation openings on the console or power supply. Do not place the console or power supply on a bed, sofa, or other soft surface that may block ventilation openings. Do not place the console or power supply in a confined space, such as a bookcase, rack, or stereo cabinet, unless the space is well ventilated.
Do not place the console or power supply near any heat sources, such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or amplifiers. (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/console/position.htm)
Carpet is a soft pliable surface, it also retains heat, unless your carpet has heatsinks... I'm just tryin to help you keep your gear longer.

Actually, the heat is vented through the sides (if horizontal) so all you need to do is have a few inches of space on each side of the 360 and it should be fine as far as heat goes unless there is a defect.

You stupid fucking moron, the world + it's technology has moved on since the ps1.and youre comparing the 360(microsofts dream machine) to a 90's 32bit console.compare it to the ps3 to make some sense or even the ps2.Shame on you and all the pathetic fanboys for comparing it to the ps1.
lets do a little test.lets leave on the ps3 and a 360 for 24 hours with a game in them.
ps3= Resistance
360= Forza 2(oh sorry the "supposed" gran turismo killer :p crahes the 360)
ok then lets use gears of war.
plz confirm weather my forecast is correct or not
ps3=game still perfectly running after 24 hours
360= you calling 911 to save your ass beacuse youre house is on fire.
and for your information
"With the early units, many gamers experienced skipping full-motion video or dreaded physical "ticking" noises coming from their PlayStations. The problem appears to have come from poorly placed vents leading to overheating in some environments"
does the 360 have design problems with its vents, not according to the fanboys and microshafts.
now stfu and keep your non sense comparisons up your ass.

At least M$ don't STEAL some ones elses hardware and claim it for their own!! Think of pony when they were working with a manufacture for the shoe-ray drives, pony practily kicked them out the door and kept on useing that companies hardware, thats classed as stealing in anyones eye.
Why the hell do you think pony charge soooo much for their ps, because they got sued. nuf said.
pony lovers suck !
My bro playes on his 360 for hours on end and it's on a flat table top.
Like with any equipment, NEVER block the vents.
@ Nick255
For your info, the 360 takes most of the air FROM the sides ( horizontal ) or BOTTOM (vertical ) and small vents on other parts of case, and vents it out the BACK. Hence why there is alot of hot air at the back!
Like a pc, from the front to the back.
People ask for trouble from over heating if placing it even on a so called clean carpet.
Any way, back on topic...
Strange thing is my bro's 360 has gone funny since playing this game, he can no longer select HD output, yes switch is on HDTV output.
Maybe just one of those things that happen..

I would'nt have bought a ps2 if I had made my descision on there return rate of the Sony vega Tv which was at 92% in the UK at one point!! my 360, in my past year of college, got played on average 6-7 hours a day everyday, some days much longer, and the only problem ive ever had is with the power supply unit, it cant be on the carpet, nor can the system itself, and you will be fine. there will be some defects for sure, but i dont believe it to be as much as people online have come to believe. my friend and i both have 360s, his is from launch, and they are both fine besides the psu. just take care of ur stuff people...
