360-gamer is running a rumor that the official MS repair center in UK is receiving up to 2,500 faulty Xbox 360 units per day. That's three UPS lorries worth which are then reportedly being shipped to Prague in the Czech Republic for repair. Due to the backlog of faulty Xbox 360's in the UK, MS has no choice but to outsource the repairs to the likes of Czech Republic.

According to Lee Sherman (Gamertag, Toxic Daywalker), who sent us details of his horrible experience, his Xbox 360 had been sent to Prague for repair, which has extended the repair time considerably.

Lee even claims that when he asked to speak to the repair centre direct, he was told this wasn’t possible because they don’t have phones... However, using a directory enquiry service he was able to obtain the number for the repair centre, where he was shocked to learn that his console was actually in Prague, not Havant as Microsoft customer service reps had claimed.

Additionally, the call to the Havant repair centre revealed some other worrying stats: “A shocking statistic we found out though is that between 1,500 to 2,500 consoles get sent to Havant by three UPS lorries per day, to then be shipped to Prague for repair,” Lee told us, going on to add, “[We] phoned up Nora the [customer service] supervisor again, who then admitted my console was in Prague and hadn’t been looked at yet – she seemed amazed that we knew!”

Comments from users on the Xbox.com forum reveal similar woes, and some have also discovered their consoles are indeed in repair centres outside of the UK: “I just spoke to the customer support people because my 360 has been gone since the 8th of June,” says forum user, LordBrown in a post dated 23rd of June. “Apparently because of the backlog in Havant they’re sending 360s to repair centres outside the UK! And that because of this Microsoft are legally allowed an additional ten days to get your 360 back to you.”

Just FYI that would be 600000 consoles per year, calculating with 20 workdays per month.

i remember having the first xbox360. and i didnt notice any trouble with it. it had a hitachi dvd drive though so i traded it in for one with a samsung cause it has better support for dvdr.

anyhow i brought it home and found it heated up abnormally. thought it was an issue so called up a friend and he said thats normal cause its so powerful. anyhow its worked for me good so far, *knocks wood*, but all these reports are making me VERY VERY jittery about using my 360 for a long time now.

Unlike the people who seem to have little to say apart from insult you even though they said they were ignoring you lol. I get what you ment by powerfull and heat even if you did say it in a way for some fools to missunderstand. And agree I only play my 360 for 1 hr max incase of heat issues myself as it does make you feel unnerved by all the reports.

Its pretty unbelievable to think 3 ups package cars per day are full of broken or repaired 360's. I work at one of the small ups centers on the east coast in north carolina(USA). I see at least 5 units a day and those are just the ones that go past or on my trucks. There are over 300 centers or hubs I believe so 1500 per day across north america would be a bare mininum number, roughly estimating anyway. If ms ships with other companies like fedex and DHL it could be more to way more. All repair boxes are either coming or going to ms repair center in mcallen, texas.

PS2s are also not the best quality but the 360 could be worse. My SNES, NES, PS1 and the other retro consoles are still working fine!

towel trick kills your console, dont do it

if you want to fix it, do x-clamp replacement mod, all x360 will die without this mod

i just saw the rings of death yesterday for the first time since i bought the console in november 2006. I tried the towel trick because my warranty is void since i have an nme360 chip installed. the towel trick worked like a charm.:) I'll do some research on the x-clamp. Is it an easy install?

I just hope MS is secretly re-designing the inards of the 360...I mean come on...reports of faulty 360's have been comming out from day ONE......that that was 20 MONTHS AGO! wake up Microsoft, if you want to stay in the console bussiness, you need to have solid hardware. I think they are so used to making Operatins Systems and dont have to worry about quality because people dont really hae a true option....but they cant do that with console because of people like Nintendo & Sony.

it works now but it'll kill you x360 in the long run, don't do it again

however, since the towel tricks works, it's almost guarantee that the x-clamp replacement will work

there are two ways to do it, lawdawg's method and rbjtech's method, both works, lawdawg's easier, if you could build your own pc it should be trivial

here's the lawdawg's method

if you're comfortable with drilling, use rjbtech's method, google it

Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to get away with selling such unreliable hardware. The problems totally put me off buying a 360

you can apply the mod after it crashes again, you dont have to do it rightaway

EDIT: and keep looking for infos and tips and such, either on neogaf or xbox-scene.com, and im sure some ppl here have done the replacement as well (not me, i dont have a 360)
