I made a dumb mistake

Heh, I feel really stupid now... I was trying to open up my GC case, and I tried doing the melt a pen to make a screwdriver thing, but I pushed too hard and held the pen in place too long, causing it to basically cover the screw with melted plastic.

My attempts at extracting the pen resulted in the plastic shattering and now the screw is sealed up in melted plastic.

Anyone ever do this? Any solutions?

I figure I could probably just scratch the plastic away bit by bit, but that could take forever and leave the screw unusable. I suppose I could saw the corner of the case off to allow direct access to the screw and just chip the plastic away...

Maybe I should trade it in on an Xbox in the shop and just buy the GC that worked with RE4 from the store... :(

Use the same type of pen and melt it and let it dry to the old pen and pull it out (don't twist or it'll break off again). Due to the fact that the GC case is hard plastic and the pen is soft the two wont be melted together as the pen is only stuck to the case and screw. Another alternative is to get a gamebit and heat it up and unscrew the *****. If not cutting is an option, but if you do add the picture to the case modding gallery as someone I know already posted a picture of a cut up case. :)

Anyway, I'll try your idea of the remelted pen and if it doesn't work, I'll saw the corner off. I've been thinking about modifying the case and just burning my own games to full-size DVDs, because many of the games I want here are only the Japanese versions.

(No English Eternal Darkness, hard to get English RE4, No English Tales of Symph.)

I did the same thing :D To get around it i just used a drill. Put the drill in the screw hole and drill 4 holes above, below and at one at each side of the screw. You will only break the plastic stump bit inside the case that the white control port panel clips onto (or the plastic back panel) After you have put the holes in and taken the other screws out the case should just lift of and you can then use a pair of pliars to undo the screw.

You're not gonna get it out by melting any more pens. I had this same problem with a broken cube I bought on ebay. The previous owner must have screwed them in pretty tight because with my cube they came out like it was nothing. Anyway, you'll never dig out all the plastic. What I had to do was cut the screw and the plastic casing on the side. You can barely tell I cut it.

i'd drill it out, as thats prolly the only way you're gonna get it easily. putting another pen could mess some stuff up. i'm sure most people live not too far from a Sears, just go buy a 5/32 nut driver and you are all set.
