View Full Version : Wiikey Region Override problem (Not the normal noob problem)

OK, here's the deal - seems weird to me.

I have a PAL Wii 2.2E with a WiiKey installed and setup using the PAL 1.2 Base. The WiiKey was bought from an (allegedly) official reseller Games4Play (www.games4play.com) in the UK - so far so good.......

Region Override is set to ON, Audiofix is ON and DVDR Discspeed is set to 6x and these settings have been saved. I know that the config when re-run always displays the same settings as it doesn't read from the chip - that's not the problem here.

The problem I have is with playing NTSC ISOs. For instance, Shrek NTSC works fine on my PAL Wii, however Super Paper Mario NTSC and Biohazard 4 NTSC JAP do not UNLESS I run regionfrii on the ISOs and then burn - in which case they work fine.

So, if this was consistent and all NTSC games wouldn't work on my PAL Wii then I would summise that my WiiKey was either a clone or had a faulty EEPROM. However, this is not the case.....

Any suggestions ?

I am having a lot of DDE (Dirty Disc Error) problems too but I'm putting that down to either my media, burnspeed or my writer.....but I guess this could be related to the WiiKey too ?

I've got some Taiyo Yuden DVDRs coming tomorrow so that should narrow down some of the issues but I digress....

So, back to the Region Override issue - has anyone come across this before and got a potential solution ?

Super Paper Mario USA runs fine on PAL wii with WiiKey - deffo coz 2 peeps wanted to run SPM USA so updated to 2.2E & chucked in Wiikey's & run the game on both to confirm
(presume you got 2.2E on your wii)

So I would say perhaps the disc/burn or how it was burnt might be the case

I used Nero 6, Ritek G05 burnt @ 4x on NEC & Sony/Lite-On writers

Some games though like Mario Party and others just won't run no matter how you try n patch them

But Paper Mario does work fine for sure on 2.2e PAL Wii's with Wiikey

If that was the same with all the NTSC ISOs I'd tried I'd agree....but it's definitely a region issue rather than a disc/burn/burner issue....

Try setting the drive speed to 3x. (after you check the region compatibility list)

I've tried both 6x and 3x settings - doesn't make a difference.

The wiki above says that both SPM and Shrek should work on the WiiKey but only Shrek works on my Wii without running RegionFrii. Judging by the other comments on the forum the WiiKey should do the region free thing itself on BOTH games.

Still no further forward
