Hello people
I got bored with trying to find a job so i decided to make my nunchuck pulse instead, it worked successfully so i thought id make a tutorial on how to do it, since i havnt seen any one else do this sort of thing.
first things first here is the video of my nunchuck (note the wiimote A is red as its set on player 2, its how i wired it up blue for 1 red for 2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PObPEPxPJ0
**pictures used in this tutorial are not mine but altered by me, i have left the watermark on it so you can give credit to the original source, and the Hex code was written by Arakon so give him a thank you:) **
Ok you will need the following items
* 3mm LED in your choice of colour
* Soldering iron
* Solder
* One PIC12f629 I\NS ( an I/P version may work also if you can tuck it in the bottom casing)
*PIC programmer
*Triwing screwdriver
*Tape
*Wire
Im not going to beat around the bush we have all heard of the add an LED to the numchuck mod and this is just a modified tutorial of that.
Start by programming the PIC if your using the recomended I\NS version you will have to solder some wire to legs 1,4,6,7,8 and plug them in the corresponding sockets on the programmer, open up whatever program you use to flash the chips and program THIS (http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachments/wii-modchips/12498-pulsing-slot-lights-fade.zip?d=1174932067) HEX file to the chip.
Once thats all done you can desolder wires 4,6,7 and solder a wire to leg 5
Open the nunchuk
Now look at the following diagram
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/5/15000342969.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=5573742)
CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO MAKE IT CLEARER
Solder the LED to the test points (long leg is + shord leg -) then using wire cutters cut a gap on the leg as shown. You may make the gap where ever you please up the top down the bottom it really dosnt matter at all.
once you have that done solder the wires joined to the chip to the coresponding points shown above.
now plug the nunchuck in and power the Wiimote up and watch it do its thing
for different pulse speeds you have to join leg 2 to leg 8 to activate the next sequence by defult its set as the fastest speed 5, for this you may want to ad a switch or something
Or as an alternative if you are talanted enough you can make your own hex code to make the light do all sorts of crazy things.
anyway thats all from me

Really nice guide. I did a similar thing a week ago. But I put in three leds and prorammed it with more kinds of sequences.(it can do cycles in both directions and pulse in cycles)

Meh, just a waste of battery power.
All these annoying LEDs just make me sad :(
Real men do mods like the wireless NES/SNES pads :D

yea your right battery power does suck with all the LEDs, i just added another one so when it fades out the light turns purple then red then back to purple then back to blue, i dont find it annoying i think its kinda soothing. at night the Wii DVD LED's pulsate and the room glows blue then fades out then gently fades back in i think its sorta relaxinf while going to sleep but theys just me. well theres a difference between the two mods you mentioned there one is hardware and the other is aesthetics they are totally different id love to have the crap laying around to do those mods when im bored but im only working with the tools i got and that limits me to mainly these mods

The hexcode is based on http://www.petesworld.demon.co.uk/homebrew/PIC/rgb/index.htm this and was modified by me, see here:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/390787-post7.html
it was originally used for the slot lights.
Would be nice if you gave credit.

Yes full credit to you and original coder.
(used a bit of your sequence-code)
Thanks!
And for schematic. use the ones at petesworld.com.
It isnt that hard to make it work for your specific use.

I've been thinking about this as well and have yet to be able to figure out a way to tell on the nunchuck side what player has been assigned on the remote side. To the best of my knowledge, there's no distinction on the nunchuck as the remote controls what signal is sent to the wii and which player the control/movement is assigned to.

nice tuturial with some hexcode of Arakon ;-)
a little tut for the RED light on the WiiMote would be nice i think ...

Awesome! Thanks for the tutorial. I also am interested in the redlight, or any other mods people can recommend that only require a soldering iron and purchasing some parts/wires (as I have a extra remote to mess around with but no programmer).

the Programmer is easy to rebuild... same like for the WiiFree Mod ...
costs only some bucks ...

what pic programer can be used for this?
also the same pic programer can be used to make any of this free chips for wii?
Nikeplektrum
05-31-2007, 06:15 PM
Yes. It's the same chip (12F629)
Using my programmer, i load the data on the pic, take the 4 last characters in the code and put them in the fade.hex file, and then program it.
Could you explain the part about alternate pulsing speeds a bit more? I modded a LED with this, and It's pulsing so slow =/ is it possible to speed it up?

well too late, its on the suported list so i bought it,
now i need to find the pic, anyone knows a place to buy them?

@ xllzerollx
don't spend Money for that ...
to programm the HEX you can use IC-Prog or the new IC-Prog lite from the WiiJii Team ...
Make your Own Pic Programmer like this one:

let you onto a little secret you can get as many as you want for free doing it this way.
here is a site that sells micro controllers http://sample.microchip.com/Default.aspx?testCookies=true thats exactly the page you want as ive got the 12f629 page open right for you. ok deal with the website is you can order sample chips for free but you need a business email sorta thing eg if you have a @hotmail or @gmail they wont let you order. but however there is a way around this if you go to this site EMAIL HELL (http://www.tshirthell.com/emailhell.htm) you can create free funny email accounts and they work on this site to order free chips how it works is you can place 2 sample orders every 40 days you can chose 3X of a certain product up to 4 products i susally get 3Xpic12f629 I/P 3Xpic12f629 I/NS 3Xpic12f675 and 3Xpic12f683 since i can utalise all 12 of those chips and i can place 2 orders of the same thing and get them all over again, and if you cant be screwed waiting for 40 days just create another email accound on email hell and do it all over again..
This method works wonders if you want chips but dont wanna pay for them
so yea thats a tutorial on how to mod a nunchuk and how to get free chips.... you guys are doing well :D
oh yea and i edited my 1st post to give credit to Arakon for the lights HEX
and to the guy who wanted to know how to change the speed get a bit of solder and touch wire 2 to wire 8 it will activate the next pattern
and lastly here is a video of the fade red to blue mod.. its on the slowest setting so live with it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT2JDoNmkvc
PSSSSS: for the A button mod I have all i did was down the bottom where you have the LED's that say what player you are i got a blue LED with some wire and soldered it to the player 1 status led and wired it up near the A button so it glows blue when player 1 is selected, same thing for player 2 but with a red LED its pretty simple really just got to be care full with the soldering

fine donate me a decent camera and i will do it.. im stuck with an old benQ 3.2 MP camera with absoloutley no close range focus macro mode or whatever its called i mean my little bros N73 has a better camera than this thing, i cant be screwed buying a better one since i dont have the cash to waste on one at the moment since i dont have full time work.

well the chip was programmed. i tried it on different voltages, i wired it all up correctly, well im 99% sure i did. when i hook it up to the power when using about 3v the chip gets hot. but the LED doesnt light up. I don't know whats wrong.
Could you possibley draw the circuit out?

im on a mac at the moment as as much as i hate windows i friggin miss paint so untill i install macromedia fireworks or something like that i cant draw anything but ill try explain, make shure pin 1 has negative and 8 is positive, pin 5 should be connected on the negative led of the LED so that should be the only negative vire that touches it but leg 8 on the PIC should be connected to the positive with the LED as well... hope you get some use out of that

Can anyone else think of a way to send a signal letting the nunchuck know which player number it's associated with so that a player light indicator could be displayed on that? I was just wondering if anyone else is working on a way to tackle this issue?

was thinking about this man and i dont think it will be possible with out opening up the plastic cable casing holding the Wiimote and the nunchuck together and adding an extra wire and stuff its hard for me to explain but it would take a fair bit of work and too much trouble if you were to ask me.. id just have 2 LEDs in the nunchuck and a switch alternating between the 2 colours then you can just switch between red and blue or whatever colours you want then you could sorta pretend

Well, if I was going to go that route, I'd just install one color in each of them so I have a complete set, I'd just have to match them up with the controllers. I've not been able to come up with any way other than like you said, running a wire through the wire (not gonna happen).
