Lots of people complaining that after modding with a Wiikey, they have to perform 10 or so steps to fix a bug that makes (on SOME Wiis) the News and Weather channel complain that WiiConnect24 is off when indeed it's turned on. Does the CycloWiz, Wiid and other mod chips exhibit the same problem? If it's unique to the Wiikey, anyone have an idea why?

taking the battery out with Wiiconnect still turned on is what causes the problems

It is nothing to do with the modchips

I got no problem either with WiiConnect24. I've only just enabled it though. I installed the Wiikey before turning it on.

I can confirm that the wiiconnect problem is NOT a wiikey thing. It happened to mine when I opened it up the first time, with no modchip installed at all.

I have a brand new Wii still in the box with a WiiKey on the way. Should I turn the system on and make sure WiiConnect isn't on before proceeding or should I be ok with out doing so.

***Sorry to OP, I do not mean to hijack your thread, I just don't wan't to start a thread for something thats already being discussed.***

i just installed my wiikey this past saturday. i was told before hand i should disable wiiconnect24 before modding, so i did that after i backed up all my save files and vc titles.

anyway long story short, after doing this and applying the mod, i had NO issues. wiiconnect24 works just fine and i was even able to send and receive a few miis (as well as using the news/weather channels).

so yeah key points - disable wiiconnect24 before installing the mod, and always remove the system battery when modding. do these and you'll be safe.

You do not even have to disable Wiiconnect24 to avoid this issue. All you have to do is remove the battery, then remove that one triwing screw then place the battery back in. You will still be able to remove the case with the battery in place and just repeat the process when putting it back together. I have modded many Wii's using this process and it works. I got this idea from someone else by doing a search :-)

To avoid losing your VC titles and save game info, do you leave the Wii powered up via AC plug while removing the battery? If you pull the battery, remove the triwing screw, then put the battery back in WHILE it's unplugged, won't you erase your memory?

You do not lose any of your VC titles and save games because it is all stored on the internal memory card. The battery is only used for (as far as i can tell) internal time and date. And I do not keep the ac adapter connected as I am removing the battery, i actually think its more dangerous that way because you can cause a short if you drop the screw into the battery slot.
