View Full Version : Mario Party 8 blocks out Wii Modders?
There are a large number of conflicting reports from modders that backups of Mario Party 8 is not working their modified consoles, one of very few games not to run on modded Wii systems. Reports vary from it not running it at all, to it running but virtually being unplayable as there are some huge slow-downs evident. It could well jsut be an anomaly or a sign of Nintendo 'fighting' back.

failed to load when I first put it in. but after a hard shutdown(hold power till the light turns red)it loaded and played just fine on my NTSC wii with WIIKEY

Yeah my WiiD runs it fine, burned at 16X on memorex DVD-R. I cant believe they get 50 bucks for these games, considering they look about as good as a gamecube game. Thank you alt.binaries.games.wii :)

what a load of bull, it just won't run on PAL consoles and the major slowdown case is not for everyone, only for 1 person so far lol

Works ok for me on cyclowiz. It was 'pausing' a little in odd places, but not enough that it seemed like a problem. For example, after it assigns colors to decide 1v3, 2v2 or free for all - then it stacks the 4 player displays -- then it would pause a second or two before seperating them out to show who was on what side.
It's playable, but it did seem like it should be going more smoothly.

Ohhhh noooo, Mario 8 used my Wifi to dial a skype line and inform FACT that I had a chipped console. Well at least the man in the blue van parked across the road looks a bit funny.:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

& the new mario football on the Wii sucks too !!IMHO the GC version is better.

All good on a NTSC Wii modded with Wiinja V1. Burned on Ritek G05 Media at 4x.

Works PERFECT on my 3.0 cyclowiz, burned at 6x on Sony DVD+R media.
@ Admins of Maxconsole: pull this from the frontpage news because there are clearly more people experiencing no problems than anything else. If you are having problems with the game, try different media, try using a game from the same region...and most importantly try not to spread rumors about the game being "anti-modchip"

Works perfectly the same as all my other games burned with the same method... Unpatched .iso, Fujifilm DVD-R burned at 16x with a Pioneer DVR-111d.
As always, loaded up the first time without question. NTSC Wii + Wiikey.

The wife and I played for 3 hours last night with out any problems. No slow loading or stuttering at all. Played great. Tested with yaosm1.7 and wiikey.

Probably some other forum or some moron on Mirc complaining about MP8 not working cus 1. his media stinks or 2 he tried it on his PAL console which is moded.

Works fine with Wiikey. I think the news post is messed up because as we know mc just copies from other sites. It seems they may have misinterpreted what was posted on wiinewz. The news post there says that it does not work on pal consoles. Works fine on all ntsc ones though including japanese.

MP8 blocks modded Maxonsole User, so dont play MP8 Backup if yiu are a maxconsole member.

Man I thought the same thing at first. But you have to play it for a bit to realize that Nintendo usually knows what's best. It's more challenging, has more fair and balanced character types, has more options to customize and use several types of strategies that the first game couldn't offer. And the mega strike isn't a sure thing now. If you're good enough you can block every shot even if the shooter got a perfectly timed charge.
Plus, you can't beat Luigi looking evil as hell when he does a mega strike. I want a poster of him doing a christ air while raining soccer balls upon some unfortunate goalie.

i think you are right there buddy i just played mario football for 1 hour & i started to get used to the mad gameplay,i sort of like the game now.
i won 4 out of 6 matches :D

the first disc i burned at 8x didnt work. the second disk at 1x works perfectly

Works for me on my NTSC Wii (v. 2.2U firmware) + Wiikey. Burned the disc at 8x on a Fujifilm disc (forget the burner used).
Game was average but really didn't use the capabilities of the Wii like I expected. Most of the games I played always used the remote NES style without any physical movement needed. I'd stick with either Wario Ware: Smooth Moves or Rayman Raving Rabbids for a good party game fix.

I had a similar problem with Mk Armageddon where the movie was choppy and the dvd drive was going nuts reading the disc. I did a hard reset and tried it after that and it worked like a champ. Cyclowiz 3.0B Ntsc wii with D2B chip
Seems to be a PAL problem, not NTSC.

on my PAL wii + WiiKey it boots, than black screen
i tried to patch iso via regio frii and i try out to set my console to 60hz with english Language - Won't Boot too on my PAL Wii ...
okay think wii PAL Users have to wait ... I preordered my PAL Version @ Amazon - Now i have to wait till June 22th or l8er :-(

I burn my games onto a 50pk of "Nexxtek" brand DVD+Rs I got from Circuit City for $7 and they work fine.

I was the one with the slowdown problem yesterday. As I said I would, I tried burning it at the slowest possible speed, and ended up with a working copy.
Not that it really makes a difference. The game is pretty terrible. I'll stick with 6 & 7.

Tried burning with a Kodak at 4x, didn't work.....got the welcome screen, then "Can't read game data" or some such nonsense. Reburned using same media at 8x, worked fine. Have an NTSC console with Wiikey installed.

This game is breaking PAL wii's. my mates kid has updated her machine with mario party 8 and now they have the url screen permently.
DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PAL WII WITH THIS GAME OR YOU WILL HAVE A BRICK

I'm sorry but anyone dumb enough to update a pal wii with a usa update deserves to brick their console, and visa versa. Everyone went through this already with super paper mario. Update your wii before playing from your own region and this won't be an issue.

it still won't work on any PAL wii though. oh well 4 months b4 PAL gets it i don't really care anyway i thought you'd be able to play online now you can't so it won't get played much here :p

Tested it on my PAL Cyclowiz 3.0
It booted ok and prompted for an update.. I panicked and ejected.
I already have my Wii updated to the latest version. :confused:

I don't understand what's so difficult about this. PAL users went through it with Super Paper Mario, NTSC users went through this with Mario Strikers Charged.
For anyone in the cheap seats that still doesn't get it...
If you're playing games from outside your region, make sure your system is up to date on all firmware and the only thing you'll have to worry about is not being able to play the game because it's incompatible.
If you really want to play things safe, just update your system before playing any new games at all.
Of course, you could just play games from your region like you're supposed to, but what fun is that?

I think the comment in this case would be applied to the parents. Why would they burn a game from outside the region, have it laying around to be picked up by the 9 year old, and not have updated their system and tested the game themselves? I think rock and roll and sex in movies is to blame.

people earlier on in the thread have said it's ok on pal. either your mistaken or they are!
seems it might be have to run in 60hz and only on some chips.
