Microsoft has responded to the criticisms surrounding the Xbox 360 overheating by using a thermometer to check the heat levels of the console whilst demo-ing the recently released Forza 2. The demo took place in Sydney, Austrailia to journalists with Forza 2 running on 3 Xbox 360s and 3 LCD screens to achieve an upscaled resolution of 1080p.
You can't make this stuff up. In Sydney, Australia Forza 2 was demoed to journalists running on 3 Xbox 360s and 3 LCD screens to achieve an upscaled resolution of 1080p. Apparently aware that this extra effort my lead to system-fatigue Microsoft took a simple but effective measure -they placed a thermometer on top of the central Xbox 360 so that they could visually monitor the temperature and turn the systems off when the heat got a bit too much for them. Which begs the question 'How hot is too hot for the Xbox 360?' and why doesn't Microsoft tell us so we can check our own 360s?

At the end of the day they have effectivley crammed a pc in a small box pc's as we know have alot more air space available and alot more cooling fans or room for extra cooling fans if required because as we know due to the complex calculations these beasts do the run HOT.IMO i would probably say low 50's C is ok anything hotter in a box that size is asking for trouble.M$$$ should have released or at least told us the safe aceptable limits of the system.

did none of the journalists note the sorts of temperatures that were being produced???

it is something i have certainly thought about, as when i first used my 360 i was astounded by the heat. so much so that i rearanged the way i locate my electrical equipment.
i have seriously been looking into getting an electric thermometer with 3+ collection points to moniter my ps3, 360 and wii, but i can not locate one that has 3 pickup points for a realistic price.

I hate microsoft. I had the 360. But i have to say, this is some serious BS. That is the IR Receiver for the Spherex Xbox stereo system. You can see the Omnipolar speakers on the damn racing chair in the pics from kotaku. Pretty pathetic what gets reported these days.

it's the x-clamps that secure the heatsinks and the cheap board the 360 has that causes the warping when it runs hot which results in hardware malfunction.

It would be silly to try the grill comeback as the ps3 pic with the grill is incorrect. The blu-ray drive is actually the coolest part on my ps3 its the part below that that has the exhaust holes is the hot part and thats not as hot as my 360 gets either lol. Back on subject though it is pointless by microsoft as they do not state the temperatures and we do not know if the xbox's are not modified either for this stunt.

Nice misinformation, you didn't even bother to look at feedback on other sites before posting this crap, well done

Even if they could see the thermometers, I bet the readings were in XBLdegrees, and thus meaningless if you don't know the conversion.

The Xbox 360 is a brilliant console but would be even more brilliant if MS ironed out some of the problems, e.g. overheating.

I just wish mine came with a grease trap on the end like PS3s so I could cook a burger without getting my entertainment system all dirty.

But that would mean that it was actually being used. See most people are still keeping their systems in the box waiting for MGS4 to set them free.

I know my system doesn't get that hot when I play, actually I think my Wii runs hotter. The games are cookin when they are ejected from the system.

They could have added more fans to make it run cooler but the people there should have asked that the console be opened to show it wasn't modified to run cooler.

I don't know how hot too hot is. I guess it's too hot when 5% of all 360's will fail. Fix it
