Is there a Wiinja Deluxe clone in the market?
Just want to know, if I have to be extra cautious when buying a deluxe, I know it should be a 12f683, thats all.
So how do I make sure its not a clone?
Does the sticker help?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the wiinja code had been leaked and people were flashing pic chips with the code, but I've not heard anything about clone chips on the market which you could accidently purchase.

someone was selling 12F629 chips off as deluuxe a while ago, someone sent one to me to fit, it didnt work as a deluxe or even a V2, in fact it didnt work at all. I ended up just flashing the chip with V2 code and fitting that as normal. the customer was happy enough.

The code is available tho, so if you see a cheap deluxe there is a good chance it will be one of those. When/if you get it, just check the chip version before you install it.

There is a guy on the WiiNewz forums that is selling Deluxe clones... but personally I wouldn't buy from him. He's an ass.

And by the way, the 629 chip can't hold the deluxe code.

The wiinja deluxe can run games from other regions where as the Winnja V2 can't unless they are patched or GC go through GCOS on V2
Think the winnja deluxe can be updated via dvd and it has to go on some xxxx83 PIC rather than the 629 or 675 PIC's out there
Similar to most chips out there but don't think it suffers from the odd GC title with audio stream problems that the Wiikey does

They might have changed the code/hex completely but when I tried a V2 though it worked it didn't have the option run some games from other regions on Wii/GC and the drive/chip seemed to initialise/spin-up twice when you first start

Someone is rumoured to have paid $500 - $1,000 to a HK company to rip the copy protected code from the chip and then they are selling deluxe winnja's cheaply and hope to recoup the investment
(Also says they may release the hex to the public once they have made enough money and all that)

Morals right or wrong, greed or stealing the work of others - whatever you think doesn't matter really the free open-source wii hex's out there are only half a step behind a fully working hex - but none of this may matter if Nintendo are changing the wii boards

Even buying a wiinja deluxe is a strange thing - you know the chip itself is just a PIC so you are paying to have some code on a $1 or so pic chip
At least with the WiiKey/CycloWiz you think you are getting a properly designed bit of kit on its own little PCB so it looks like you can see what you are getting for your money

Some of the above are my opinions and shouldn't be taken too seriously - I still think paying say £15 or so for a wiinja deluxe and all I can see is basically a £1 programmed chip that won't perform that different to yaosm
(If dvd upgrade is an option it is yet to be used fully and when something major comes along (DVD9 maybe) most of the other pic chips will start to utilise it anyway)
