I think this is the reason, Wiikey team is still not coming with an update for Wiikey

The Wiikey team, see www.wiikey.cn told us to come with an update on the 15th of May. Now, 13 days later, still no update was seen.

Also, the Wiikey is suffering, from competition, namely that a Wiikey clone, also has been put on the market, with an average price, of 10 Euros less, then the original Wiikey.

Wiikey team told me, they would come with an update, which would brick the Wiikey clones, and show a message on the screen :
"You have a Wiikey clone !!"

Also they would stop delivering to resellers, who would also sell clones.
They also start to come with a hologram. Wow, sooo much marketing....

I think, that for the Wiikey team, it is impossible, to come with an update, which is not working on the Wiikey clones.

So, when they come, with an update, soon, people will try to update their Wiikey clone, and the big news will be, that they will also work on the clones.

Right now, I install clones, in Nintendo Wiis, and tell my customers, that the updates, can also be installed on the clones.
I also tell them, if it is not possible, that I will replace the clones, by 'real' ones. 95 % of the customers, go for the clones, which are 10 Euros cheaper.

So summarized:

1) When Wiikey team comes with an update, they will sell less of the real Wiikeys, and thus earn less.
2) My customers, like to pay less, for the same functionality (95% of them).

My advise to Wiikey team would be:

Guys, come on, release the update, to compensate your credibility.

Good post, and i totally agree. Wiikey are not going to be able to block cloones forever. If they block them with this firmware, clones will step up their game, and become compatible with newset firmware. The best thing wiikey can do now is release the firmware update.

1) they have to sell their remaining stock

2) they were shipping a new batch of wiikeys with holograms ... what a coincidence that the ETA for MAY 15TH corresponded to when reseller would receive the new shippments

3) they lied so that people would buy their crappy product and there wouldn't be any left over inventory

4) it's not coming anytime soon because emu kidd and wiikey are a bunch of lying douches and there covering their asses by making empty promises when really they should just shut their mouths and let another developer do a better job

5) the ONLY incentive that WIIKEY has to release the fix is when people buy up all the remaining wiikeys (even though the clones are IDENTICAL) and once they can't profit any further they MIGHT be decent and live up to their promise but i wouldnt hold my breath.

boycott whatever products anyone affliated with that team in the future. douches.

Funny stuff. Let me ask a serious question though... Is nobody bothered by the fact that they advertise the audiofix as working out of the box, but haven't even come out with an update? I could care less about the audiofix, but it bothers me greatly that they are falsely advertising the features of their chip. IMO, most of the people complaining are more upset about the false advertising than the fact that you can't play around 15 gamecube games, consequently, they're blowing the whole issue out of proportion. There's no doubt that people are making the audiofix out to be more than it is, but I think it's more about poor business practice that they know it's an issue, and in the past 3 months, still haven't even updated their main page to make the correction.

They need to start selling official WiiKeys for less. There are several free open source Wii modchip projects that are pretty much as good as the WiiKey.
In fact, they probably are selling some for cheaper and calling them clones. That is, if they own the factory as well.
