Has anyone else tried to put a backup onto lightscribe media? I am using HP lightscribe media and the backup won't boot. It is DVD+R media btw. Thanks :)

I just purchased a lightscribe burner and 100 pack of Philips DVD-R disks and have gotten about 2 out of 20 to work. I've given up trying to burn anymore. Now I'm just using them to make movies with. Went back to my HP DVD-R disks. Had two bad burns (both the fault of my system locking up) so far. Maybe I'll try another brand media, I'm just a little pissed with the whole experience at this point to even bother going out and getting more disks. Especially since I'm still sitting on 3 unopened 25 packs and a few left from the first already. If anyone else has a some ideas, I'd be more than willing to experiment (got plenty of test media). :)

Was your 100 pack actual lightscribe disks? If so did you just try burning the game or did you burn the game and the label? I burnt the label first and then the game and no luck :( I only bought a 10pk of lightscribe dvds so I am reluctant to try again.

I use HP LightScribe DVD+R (they say Verbatim in the middle ring).
I had a bad WiiKey clone installed and it'd only read this brand of disc.
It wouldn't play anything not even real games!

Is your DVD burner firmware updated and have you tried a IMG Burn?

My HP lightscribe disks dont say vebatim on them perhaps I need to find some better ones. Also what speed are you guys burning at? I am burning at 16x. I am also using imgburn. The disks on memorex media work fine. Memorex in imgburn say ritek media.

HP media says it is CMC MAG-M01-00. Maybe it is just crap media?

LOL 16x? WOW
16x and you are complainning about bad burn? read the sticky please.
fyi, the FASTER you burn the DVD, the worse DVD quality will be. on the avg, you should only burn backup image around 2-4x speed.

The lightscribe disks I'm using are these... http://www.supermediastore.com/philips-dvd-r-16x-lightscribe-100-pack.html
They work fine for burning anything that needs read by the computer, but, as I said, they almost ALL fail on the wii. In fact, I haven't even gotten to the point of burning the lightscribe image, I've only burnt the data part of the disk (don't see any sense in wasting time buring the image if the data can't be read).

When using non-lightscribe media, I've not burned anything slower than 8x and have yet to get a bad burn that wasn't attributed to the computer locking up. The whole "slower is better" thing is little more than an old wives tale that used to hold true when disk burning was in its infancy. What sticky are you talking about? I'm always willing to hear another opinion, but so far, my experience has proven otherwise.

Sounds like I'll be going out and buying some HP lightscribes to see if they work any better.

Not sure who you're responding to, but the disks I have as well as the link are DVD-R. This is the site I get most of my covers from, some original, most custom, but overall there's some nice graphics on here. http://www.console-covers.com/Downloads/Vault/Files/Wii/NTSCDiscs-Custom/ You have to sign up and they ask that you post a comment, other than that, it's a pretty nice site.

Furthermore, I've also heard that the +-RW work fine as well. From what I hear, there are less problems with the -R but you are correct.

My Verbatim +R work better burned at 16x than at any slower speed.

yeah I want to say that I have a newer 18X burner, and trying to burn at a slower speed actualy makes coasters. I burn all my wii backups on cheapo maxell and memorex DVD-Rs at 16X with absoloutly no problems. I havent done any light scribes for my Wii yet but have done plenty for my xbox.

The only discs I use on my Wii (Wiikey USA) are Verbatim 16x Lightscribe +R discs, they all work perfectly. I don't understand why everyone's immediate response to this kind of post is "+R don't work, use -R instead". I have some Memorex CMC Lightscribe +R discs and they are garbage, can only burn 1 out of 5 so I didn't even bother trying them on the Wii. My suggestion is get yourself some Verbatim +R Lightscribe media, they work great and look great too.

I had a few problems with some +R, then I forced them in IMGBurn to booktype dvd-rom and they all work great. I am using HP Lightscribe +R's I bought from walmart, they are working great with this booktype setting. Also I am only burning at 4x

Maybe I'll look into trying that. It's not as if I don't have a sh!tload of these disks laying around at this point. What's another 15 - 20 coasters? lol I'll post back sometime tonight after I get home from work and have a chance to try it out.

I got a 50pk of memorex dvd+r lightscribes at frys for 22.99. They work great :) Only thing is unlike the HP media I was only able to burn the label once instead of twice to make it darker. Perhaps my burner is going bad

all my lightscribe burns have worked fine, I have a samsung burner and have been using phillips discs. I have been burning on these discs at 2X as opposed to normally burning at 4X on other discs
