yesterday i ran out of the 12f629/IPs so i used the micro version of it i had to solder it to the friggin socket just to program the bastard then i installed it in a friends Wii and the thing works better then the IP version, my chip has the same version 2.45 of Wiifree installed on it and it has stuttering problems in the intro of DBZt2 and on wario ware and ive used the config disk to try fix it not that i care the game play is normal speed but on the micro chip i didnt use the config disk or anything and games are read quicker, no stuttering and faster loading.
so yea seems like these micro versions of the 12f629s are the way to go

If you are using Normal speed, and your friend didn't use the config disk. You slowed yourself down. High speed is the default.

Think yaosm is the same - max read spead is the default unless you run the config disc to alter it to max/med/slow - which I presume is 6x/4x/2x
and yes the SM or SOIC mini 12f629's are perfect for installs, much smaller and easier to fit anywhere on the pcb
What I would like to see is peeps stop waiting and moaning about the wiikey update and utilise the wiikey or clone for other mods like openwii 2.2
(uses same chip and all that so why bother trying build a big ol 28 pin dip when the 32 pin TQFP is on the wiikey already)
when the openwii can be put on and update a wiikey with a new bios maybe also go back to using 5 wires instead of 6 as in the wiikey's install
till then yaosm on a soic mini pic will do for me

Are you telling me that you can use openwii firmware on a cloned wiikey?

openwii uses the 28 pin DIP ATMEGA8 chip
but ATMEGA8 also comes in a 32 pin tiny plcc or TQFP which is on the wiikey
most of the pins on the 28 dip & 32 TQFP are not used but the ATMEGA8L is different to the normal 12f629 etc... chips and can be reflashed in situ
I am no expert and some details of the openwii using the ATMEGA 28 DIP are a little sketchy - not very easy to find the install diagrams last time I looked
but it appears that maybe it use 5 & not 6 wires plus it might be using either 3.3v or 5v
I am not a pragrammer and wiinewz has disabled registration for me to ask these questions to the program sections, but I have been wondering if the parts are there on the wiikey and no update is forthcoming then it " theory " it should possible to utilise what is already out there
Now it may need a track cut and a wire or two soldered to convert the 32 TQFP to 28 DIP layout - and it might have to be wired into a programmer first perhaps to erase & reflash with openwii
(But maybe just maybe the wiikey can be updated via a DVD with openwii 2.2 or 2.3 and even go back to the 5 wire install)
Maybe wiikey & openwii programmers should put their heads together coz I think it could work - but alas all I have are ideas and not the time to work through all the 32 & 28 pinouts if it needs to be put into a programmer first

nah my chip is set to the highest setting but still stutters? could the length of the wires play a part at all of the install my chip wired are about 10 or so cm long but the ones i installed in this guys are about 4cm at the longest

Can't see it being down to length of wire makes games stutter
If you think about it - it has either booted the game or not, then the mod goes into stealth or if it doesn't it won't matter the game has booted and is running until you reset the wii
My wii has an external dongle on 6 header pins/socket so I can change to another pic or coz it has 6 wires I change to wiikey - and so the wire length must be at least 6 inches - in fact I had a mod plugged in with about 2.5 inches of wire so that would make nearly 9 inches but functioned fine
I think it is more of a case of a not so perfect burn - Mario Strikers was fine but the opening fmv wasn't glitchy but sometimes cut short when it played in it's start screen loop - runs the fmv about a minute after waiting for you to press A etc.....
Anyway sometimes it played fine, sometimes it cut short and once in a blue moon I got an error has occured blah blah blah
running the disc through Nero's cd/dvd speed test the graph was very glitchy in places so I reburnt it on another writer at a slower speed - haven't seen it since and I have left it running for yonks
I would suggest maybe see if the speed set at medium may help
slow 2x may glitch coz it can't keep up
med 4x might be better and allow the laser to read the disc a bit better
max 6x might be spinning the disc too fast and it may not be able to read a slightly below par burn
The exact same disc might play fine in your friends wii but then he may a slightly stronger laser than yours - like the gamecube lasers they can really vary from GC to GC - some will run stuff fine from day one, most need a tiny tweak and some will not run backups at all coz the laser is shot
I DO NOT ADVISE TWEAKING THE WII LASER !!!!!
try reburning the disc slower or using a different program or media
I assume that both of you are using the exact same hex and not a newer/older of buggy release and that you also tried the stuttering disc in your friends wii
btw what game & region is the disc/s in question ?

i have used a small type 12F629 a few times, just for the hell of it and alot of the normal sized ones, all with the wiijav2 hex on and ive seen no difference in performance at all. I swap between my own mini one and large ones regularly and we often play wario ware, i dont think they perform any different at all.

i havnt tried the wiinja hex on any of my chips as wiifree does the job nicely but i cant really explain it why would the mini chip make a difference in the preformance it wasnt the media coz i gave him my disk of DBZ and wario and they stutter on mine yet run perfect on his... only conclusion i can come up with is his is special
PS all my games are PAL since im an Aussie, just to answer that question
