View Full Version : Error "The game disc could not be read." after some time. What could have caused this

I have a Nintendo Wii, modified with the Wiikey modchip.

When I play a backup disc, after some time, I got the error:

"The game disc could not be read.
Please read the wii operation manual for more information. "

It happens more fast, when I put the Wii on standby mode with the yellow light, instead of the red mode.

What could have caused this ?
And, most important, what is the solution ?

(I am using Verbatim DVD-R 16x speed discs).

Burn at slower speeds or try other discs.

I have gotten this message tons of times, just reboot, fiddle around with it, try another game. They then work for me.

Games were burned at 8x speed.

Just consider the variables.

You can try different media (like a different brand..Taiyo Yuden are one of the best).

You can try a different DVD burner.

You can try burning at different speeds (but a lot of this is bullshit, see http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/advancedconcepts.htm)

You can try a different image file.

On the xbox there was a guide to tweaking a potentiometer on the DVD drive laser. Some of them came with it turned too far meaning it wouldn't read any burned media which requires a higher powered laser. I tweaked this on several drives and it worked good; you could read discs you previously couldn't. Maybe this is possible with the Wii and those who have 'picky Wii's' will be able to do a similar mod. Or maybe not. I haven't looked into it.

Don't think the media or burning speeds will help much. As my wii is un-modded and i get this almost everyday.

seems to be broken. i have my wii since launch. its unmodded and i have never seen a disc-read-error.
