I got my PIC chip & programmer today and decided to upgrade from a serial cable mod to OpenWii.. but when I went to solder the new points I would need I ran into 2 problems.

1) Bridge'd 2 connections, I fixed that tho and check and there are no bridges now.

2) I broke the little brown clip for the flexi-cable, the cable is fine, but havent figured out a way to make it stay in there yet when I put the drive down.

The Wii turns on fine, and the channels seem to work fine. But when I put in a regular wii disk, it reads.. reads.. and then shuts down to an error telling me to check my users manual. I have tried turing it on, with the Wii gutted and the cable pushed in there, and still the same problem.

The only thing I can think of is that mabey the flexicable needs to have more pressure to have a connection. Anyone got any ideas? did I possible kill it with having the initial bridges connections? (there is no burn damage to the board).

If you're sure you cleaned up the bridged connections then its probably the cable. Best and easiest way I've heard of people repairing the connection is by....

1. If you still have the brown tab/clip press it into place with the ribbon cable and use hot glue to hold it into place.

2. If you don't have the brown tab/clip cut a small piece of plastic at the same size and hot glue it into place.

Ignore what this guy says, hot glueing the plastic on will not give the pressure required to make a connection. Trust me I tried many methods to fix this connector and the only one that worked was to replace it completely.

Thnx for the advice guys! turns out you were both right ;)

I was smart enuf to put the clip aside after I broke it, and I was able to clip it back on there (now taking the cable on and off is a *****). With it secure in place I could tell there was 100times more pressure on the cable, plugged her in a everything works.

too bad I desolderd everything :( oh well, atleast I have the serial port ready to go. Even tho I have to resolder the small points again. with some luck, my next post here will be of my external chip

god I love this site, always so helpful
