Never. That would be suicide for them.

Just a guess but the $300 mark sounds about right - probably followed by a £300 rip off price here in the UK.
If it follows the usual pattern, as in early adopters pay a premium price, it should probably shed a fair whack off it's tag a few months after launch just in time for the ps3 release.

that 300 $ mark sounds low to me. im thinking at least $399. this thing is going to cost a shitload to make..and ms now isnt going to be willing to take such a hit like they did with the first xbox. plus since they will most likely be the only one to release a new console this year..they will more than likely sell it a bit higher right now. guess we'll find out at e3.

if you would buy a pc that has that power it would cost you at least 1000€
Read that the reason M$ can offer such a beefed up system and actualy profit off it this time, is due to M$ owning all the equipment now and are not licensing it from Nvidia and I think Intel (was that who made there last processor for XboX 1?). M$ doesnt have to pay anyone else to make the XboX 360.

I saw an article in a couple of national newspapers yesterday in the UK (The Sun and I think The Star). They had the 3 consoles lined up (X360, PS3, N Revolution). The prices they had were pretty unbelievable.
They said £165 (GBPounds) for the X360, £199 for the PS3 and £80+ for the Revolution (That is what was actually put there).
I don't have a link as it was a newspaper, but I do know that when consoles are released over here normally at release they cost £300 (Normally the dollar amount with a pound sign attached).
Their basic comparison also said that the Xbox 360 is 5 times faster than 'a desktop PC' and the PS3 is 10! times faster than 'a desktop PC'. They didn't explain what the 'desktop PC' they were comparing them to was.
Could this be true that the 360 will be launched at nearly half the launch price of its predecessor (in the UK)?

definitly not less than the revolution I know.

only problem is you cant buy a pc to match it lol. the manufacturers even said its at least a yr ahead of pcs. not to mention a pc will never have the cell ppc processor that it uses. so in a yr a mac will match the 360 and ps3

On the contrary, they'll take a hit, as the software developers still have to pay royalties back to M$ on unit sales. More importantly P9, they'll want to install an established user base for when the PS3 finally hits the shelves. It's all about money, and commericalism my friend.
Put yourself in M$ shoes for a moment, and ask, what would you do?! :)

Trust me, they're licencing from at least NVidia/ATI and Intel... Unless they've made a Grand Canyon'esque leap into chip production on the sly, which I wouldn't put past them, but someone, somewhere would've noticed.
They will make little if any profit, but won't be worried about that. Their simple sole aim is to ground as many of us with these units, and get us buying the software.

intel actually isnt making any of the next gen processors, isnt ibm? and ati too but i havent read about agreements on pricing from them. last time round xbox started changing there video card and ram suppliers for cost efficiency. they even removed the processing fan for a heatsink. after watching the colony video which shows water cooling, i dont think theres any corners theyll be able to cut to save a buck

Wasn't 100% sure about the IBM stake in things. I did believe it was Intel! I stand corrected if this is the case! :)
With regards to the GPU, they could do a lot worse than either nVidia or ATI, though I personally would favour the latter!
As for water cooling... *sigh* big mistake... I've a water cooler in one of my units (hand built), but I'd hardly give a water cooled unit to my two year old son, it's likely to get kicked (liberally), battered, dropped, etc., if you get my drift... Why spend a fortune on something overboard... :)
A decent air cooling system should be fine, though, I can see cooling the slimline unit as a problem.
If you, or anyone else knows, are the doing a new unit with internal HD? All reports seem to suggest they'll be external?! Again, it adds to the cooling issue!

its water cooled yes. so is one of my pcs and there no risk. and its external detachable hds. it comes with a 20gb but it will be available in many sizes as an extra.

I find it incredible that they'd choose to water cool a console, and skimp on things such as an internal hard disk. Sounds ludicrous to me, and makes no sense whatsoever.
There's always a risk when water cooling something that's electrical too. It's only takes one single over exuberant fork-lift truck driving kid in toys are us to drop/ruin and pallet load! :)
For the minimal benefit, it ain't worth it.
IMHO!

its good that its not internal. now you can just unclip and clip in the new one. no more taking apart anything to switch. and you can bring the hd over to a friends and hook to his 360 without bringing the whole console.

:)
LOL... of course...
There's a lot to be said for NAS, and standard external storage units. It's also one less thing internally to go wrong.

Apologies...was perusing another forum, and replying at the same time. And, I've even digressed from the other conversation.
The point was supposed to that the hardware was good!

ya it was good. and always will be as long as ms sticks with the ibm ppc processor. as soon as they go back to something weak like pentium or maybe even amd then its over and sony will take the lead again.
