Im kinda curious if this will work or not hoping someone else has tried it already haha
anyway I have a Wii with a D2A drive(which no longer works properly)
and it has all my saves and such
I wanna know if I can swap in a new disk drive (a d2b I believe havent opened it yet) and recover all my saves
if no ones tried it yet Ill probably give it a go sometime this week whenever my WiiD gets here

Yes you can.. It will work perfectly..
I had to do the same, because the teath on the cogs on the loading mechanism stripped.. But because I had an external socket on my Wii, I didn't want to have to do it again on the new one. So when I got my new Wii I simply replaced the drive. My original was a D2A and my replacement is a D2B and its working perfectly.
I hope this helps

Sweet not only did the swap work perfectly fine, I also found out the drive I thought I previously bricked still works fine and its now in my new Wii with my cyclowiz running fine too
but my old wii still wont work properly, I think I damaged the pins on the cable or even possibly unplugged the cable on the motherboard
much thanks for the quick reply

Nice to see that your old drive still works in the new Wii but I hope you get your old one figured out. Good luck!
