Help with Wii .img/backup creation for newbie

Any help would be appreciated:

My kids each have Wii consoles. I want to install a Wii key in each unit and backup our originals so they each have a copy. I am experienced in modding the PS2 and have good soldering skills so the Wii key install seesm pretty simple. It is the creation of the backups that is holding me back right now. I was told by a somewhat trustworthy source that I would need an LG-8164b drive to read the originals. Is that true? Please post any info you have for me. Thanks.

a simple search(look to the top right) or a visit to wiinewz.com and doing the same there should solve your problem. The LG drive is correct....but you'll need more than that.

Essentials:
Lg drive(that model)
RAWDUMP 2.0(+ net framework 2.0)
disc burning software
good dvd media

search for rawdump or a tutorial to get the know-how. There are definetly multiple posts about this.
