've had a few ideas for what a Qoob Bios v1.4 could implement, since it has been "in the works" for the past 2 years, and no CONFIRMATION has been made to say that the latest bios (1.3c) is the last one....
1) I've noticed that the original bios loads my original games faster than the qoob pro bios, by default.... My original bios takes 10 seconds to load from boot of machine into the black screen of the boot of the game... Perhaps a feature that can be implemented into a new bios could be: IF THERE IS A DISC, LOAD DISC AS FAST AS POSSIBLE <to duplicate the speed of the original bios, but with all boots>... it can be an on/off switch, for those that just want to play games and never touch the settings again.. and if they do, just don't put a disc in when you reset the machine...
2) I like my current bios background... however, I had an idea of perhaps implementing a feature, that since it uses an MPEG video, as a 1 frame still, to implement a feature when one can put a MPEG video with more frames, and maybe even sound... This could be cool for those that want to have a moving background.... as a feature.. on/off of course.... and to have no text at the bottom of the screen, whatsoever... it would make booting look so damn cool.. and no other machine would be able to do that one...
3) I like GCOS because it allows me to view all the information of my machine, and export stuff like games and drive/board information... perhaps implementing a section that can do this in the Qoob Pro Bios would eliminate people from having to take the time to load up GCOM/S for this feature.... It would be cool to be able to copy games from the main Qoob Pro Bios....
4) I also like GCOS because it allows you to explore the contents of the discs inside.. This is good for emulators, and programs that have DOL files, as you can load the DOL by browsing the disc... I would personally like to see this feature in the Qoob Pro bios.... This could also help for the MP3 players and stuff, allowing you to set program extensions which save to the config..... if such a thing is programmable..... It would even be easy to load cheats with this method......
5) I've heard that some games are more reliable in older bios', and some games are just fine on the newest one... perhaps a bios that has a selector of METHOD OF RUNNING, besides the DVD A and B options would be cool.... to be more specific... like for example, RUN IN v1.3a MODE, or v1.3b3 MODE, or v1.3cA, just for example... this would make the Qoob Pro much more user friendly, in terms of needing to flash software, at least for the bios, less and less, increasing enjoyablility....
6) Perhaps a feature that could show the GAME BANNER and ID HEADER INFORMATION would add a lot of niche to the frontend, as it wouldn't just seem like a homebrew bios, which requires PROGRAM KNOWLEDGE if you know what I mean... It would make it nicer for people to load their games, the same way loading the game in the original bios feels.... but with backups too..
7) The original flasher that comes with the Qoob Pro doesn't appear to have as many blocks as the newer version of the flasher... Perhaps, if there are even more blocks that aren't shown, or a more intricate, but easy to handle way of producing an image of the blocks, would be an excellent feature to add to a new flasher.... Just in case that 1 needed extra block is actually there.. but isn't shown in the flasher GUI.........
8) An onboard/on BIOS memory card manager would be amazing.. nothing too fancy is necessary... just the Mem Card 1 and 2 options, the ICON, Information, and COPY+MOVE+DELETE options there.. to stop people from needing to go into the original BIOS.. and if it's also possible to access the CALENDER and OPTIONS tabs with those feature, people will really have no need, besides nostalgia, to load the original BIOS to begin with.....
9) Perhaps making the GameCube compatible with RW media would be amazing.. especially for disc browsing and uploading features... instead of FLASHING, and so forth..... and wasting blanks... if it's actually possible to the lens to read such media of course....
10) A LAN explorer like GCOS has would also be a great feature for those with BroadBand Adaptors....
In a sense, the idea is to take all features implemented in all other cards and programs, as well as current ones, and to make A ONE IN ALL, NEVER NEED TO UPGRADE BECAUSE IT HAS EVERYTHING ALREADY bios..... I'm sure the Qoob SX could benefit from such features too.... and this would definately breath a lot of life into the Qoob, as there is no other chip that would be able to do all these things and look so damn good, as well as be as easy as hell.....
I don't know who the programmers are of the bios', if some are on this forum or not, but these are just a few ideas that can be implemented... Since the bios has been announced for more that 2 years, maybe it'll be fair for those that are sticking with GameCube just a little longer before getting a Wii, or other console, to enjoy it to its absolute maximum potential....
Perhaps others feel the same, and could share their ideas and suggestions....
This could potentially be the final Qoob Bios, as nobody wants to spend any more effort, in a sense, on the BIOS of GameCube and would rather move on to more complicated things like the Wii.... I am aware that there is another thread based on what the qoob 1.4 should include, but didn't want to post there, as the last post was made last year...
I wanted to make an updated post, where people can put their most compressed ideas into one post that somebody can try and use to make a new Bios to fix old issues, implement missing features, and release, a hands-down, final release, untouchable! bios...
And if the whole thing was canned, and I have no idea, somebody please let me know!!!! XD
