As I wait for my Zoozen tool kit and my PIC samples from Microchip to come in the mail, I'm wondering what I should bother installing.

I have a Wiikey which, by analysis of the Wiikey "experts" here, apparently is a clone. Will it be worth waiting for the promised update? Should I just go with what's working for everyone (else) and install a Wiifree? Taking the PIC out to program it is less than a hassle, IMO, than waiting for an update.

The clones have a sh*t load of probs. The pic's work nicely but if you want to upgrade you should have a retention thing that you can pop the pins in and pull out when you want to.

Btw i highely doubt that the wiikey team can stop clone updates.

Really? This is all news to me. I just bought five last week and so far have installed two, both working perfectly. The only thing I did notice is that I needed to run the setup disk for them to work. Before running the setup disk, neither originals or backups worked on the system after installing the chip. I'm inclined to think that the "sh*t load of probs" were probably user error.

As for the ability to update clones, I think it will come down to just how much of a "clone" they are. If it's a true 1:1 clone, they wouldn't be able to use anything to detect the difference. If they're just a knock off with the same functionality, they may. Time will have to tell on that one.

If you do reading on some other forums you will see that there was a bad batch of clones shipped out.

I've heard people saying that, but the timeframe they say they were sent out is right when I ordered mine. My clones were shipped out of divineo.cn on 5/2. They arrived on the 8th and as I've said, I've had no problems other than needing to run the setup disk. Once that was run, all was well.
