View Full Version : Drive issue, Cannot insert discs but can eject fine (motors are spinning!) Wiikey

Hey everyone,

I have a wiikey installed in my Wii and it has been working fine for some time now but recently it's begun acting up and won't pull in Discs. At first this issue was intermittent and for whatever reason it would work again. Sometimes I could fool it by inserting a disc just as I turned it on. But no more.

If I hit the eject button it works. I can shove a disc in and eject it just fine (tho shoving it discs by no means will make them readable.)

All I get from the Wii is "disc is unreadable" so it seems to think there's a disk in there. I've opened it up and checked everything. I know the cable is inserted fine because without the cable I can't even eject.

I don't think this is related to that fried fuse issue, because I do get a response from the drive when I press the eject button and it does seem to make all sorts of noises when it turns on - like it always has. Lights flashing, clicking etc...

Any ideas?

i had this problem on a repair, i couldnt tell you exactly what went wrong, however try Pushing the disc in manually, you`ll have to force it, but do it gently, i had to do it around an inch or so, and then it grabbed it in perfectly.

i couldnt tell you why its not reading disks though.

Actually I've tried forcing it in all the way and it never grabs.

I've gotten lucky though and for whatever reason, once again, it has sucked in Godfather. It's still going to be an issue once I eject this disc though, but for tonight at least I have something to play ;-)

I *never* have problems reading discs... just inserting them, it very rarely grabs the disc in.

ok, well what you need to do then maybe is, remove the drive PCB from the drive assembly, turn it over and youll see two small clear LED type components, these are the optical sensors to controll the drive sucking in the disk, make sure the solder connections are ok, and no shiit is blocking them.

over than that though, i`m not sure, the pcb could be damaged.

hope this helps.

p.s. you`ll need to desolder six wires from the pcb and remove 1 or 2 screws, plus all the ribbon cables (3 i think)
