Hi

Ive gone to wii update through the system settings it goes to update and comes back saying there are no more updates available ie i have the latest wii updates installed.

When I insert paper mario NTSC it comes up with an update screen. Will this brick my wii if i do it. ive heard that if you have the latest wii update it wont.

thanks

sash:)

Yes it will brick your wii. Don't run the update on the spm disc on a pal machine.

Not for all though AceMilo...right?

update to the latest version of the wii firmware and then run the update, it will work just fine.

Probably got this all wrong but I was just looking at some of the screenshots taken by some unlucky Wii-owners.

As far as my (pretty limited) understanding of this whole bricking situation goes, the actual error is that the Wii is bricked by being unable to boot because it can't find some kind of Opera browser related file (once you update with SPM without right system update)? Obviously (if this is true) then the system update installs this crucial file?

I have a PAL machine.

I did an upgrade using system settings followed by the update on the Super Paper Mario disc and it works.

I'm using a Cylowiz chip.

It's an awesome game. Go for it!

I've also got a PAL Wii, ran the SPM-Update with firmware 2.2E installed.

Wii-Settings:

DMS-Chipset
System-language: german
Channels: Opera (full version, not the "demo"), voting channel
Wii has been online while updating...

installed modchip: Chiip (firmware 0.9.0)

everything just worked fine for me, great game btw ;)

All you need is an update to 2.2E, then pop in the game, run the update it has and you're set to go!

what worries me about this is, what if the next update after 2.2e contains something. And uve put some american files on that shouldnt be thier. Maybe 2.3e will brick it.

i thought the same but i do think its pretty unlikely, i guess we will have to just wait n see on that.

To reply to the OP, ive updated 4 machines to 2.2E and then played mario on them with no problems.

I apologize for reviving this old topic (I used the search).

Yesterday I modded my NTSC Wii with Cyclo-Wiz but I skipped the wires part because I ran out of thin wires :(

I placed Super Paper Mario on the system and it is prompting for a Wii update.

Since the chip is always ON, would that update kill the chip?

Nope, SPM works fine on a NTSC console.
