Rumor has it that former DS developer DarkFader has managed to desolder and create a socket for the Wii BIOS which allows him to dump its entire contents as well as repgrogram it. Just a few days ago, WAB also revealead that they managed to dump the Wii BIOS - sparking fresh hope that a custom BIOS may soon be possible on the Wii. Just a word of caution, despite his work in the development scene, DarkFader to the dismay of many released a horrid virus for DS which rendered the unit useless after infection.

The 360 was running backups within months of its release.

Why would you guys bother to bad mouth Darkfader with the release of
this news? I didn't see you digging up all the shady bullshit WAB has done
in the past when you posted their bios story?

Huge TWAT alert!

Make it yourself if its so easy :)

or maybe you mean that because YOU have a 360 or PS3, its somehow a better console because of the protection??

if you were dumb enuf to use dark fader's "auto-bricker" then you are a deserving noob. if you don't know what you are doing when modding your hardware or can't afford to bear any bricking, then leave yer hardware alone. he should call that lil proggy a noob filter.

Too bad the Wii BIOS wasn't dumped by WAB, the NAND flash was...

Some people need to get a grip, at some stage in everyones lives, you learn how to do something, not one person is born automatically knowing how to do something.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see any developments on anything about this.....................

This could be an intresting project. I hope Darkfader reprograms it right

A "virus" must be able to duplicate itself and spread to other systems. It sounds like what he created was a malicious, vandalous prank.

No it means the company spent more of there time and money on creating the console instead of caring about comming up with security solutions.

or they go the ps1/xbox way, make it so easy to hack so you get more poeple to buy youre console, they tell about the console to others who buy it and many of those friends buy all legally, the playing downloads isn't done by very much people on console's

Something that would be real nice is if you could switch out the 512MB NAND and replace it with the biggest Samsung OneNAND available (I believe that is 2GB). The one currently in the Wii is SOOO SLOOOOW...

I was quite happy when I heard this news....too bad this thread is just another fanboy verbal war going on. Let me make an effort to raise the maturity level of this thread. I'll do that with a question:

Since I am not ashamed to say I am a noob around here, this would mean this is the first step closer to hacking the Wii's own firmware, correct?

This means a step closer to Wii homebrew and more correct?

Well, what ideas do you guys have for Wii homebrew? It's obvious a console LIKE this has never reached the surface....so how do we take motion control and create a low-budget home-made game that's fun that we could share? Any ideas?

My idea...if possible....since I am no computer Guru....mearly a person with some basic knowledge of computer boards and programming, was wondering what I would need to do to incorporate motion controls into classic games.

Imagine baseball simulator 1000 for snes with motion controls.

Or turtles in time with a nunchuck and wii remote.

Or Punchout for NES, finally getting a bit closer to being little Mac.

(Float like a butterfly, bite like a misquito)

Think of the possibilities.....is it a possibility?

I think your logic is pretty messed up. By the way, the console has not yet been hacked, the drive has. Do us all a favor and at least know what you're talking about before you bring your fanboyism to the boards and make yourself look like an ass.

Information should be shared and used to progress the scene and not used for evil deeds like bricking consoles or handhelds. The power to do evil is not an excuse to execute such things. Just cause you can doesn't mean you should....

OK , i here people saying the BIOS (not really the right word) is not in the NAND? am i mistaken then, as i thought the NAND held everything, saves / VC / OS / BIOS etc etc., if not them where is it...................

until there is any scrap of proof, this will remain what it is: a rumor.

(or a brilliant mass wii bricking plot)

I suspect the the latter.
