What is it with me and rework stations, another one bites the dust!!!
Tested today :-
One good working Wii
One bad bricked wii (SPM Opera error)
removed both nand flashs from each wii, and resoldered the Good nand flash into the Wii that contained the bricked Nand, resulting in nothing but a black screen, i have swapped back the bricked nandflash and the wii is now working again (as in its giving video output with the bricked wii message from opera).
So swapping NAND`s doesnt work, and neither should copying a good nand flash onto a bricked nand flash, so people need to do more work, its likely there is unique keys or something?
let the work continue....................

were both wii the same chip whether it be d2b or dms? Most likely a unique key but just wondering about this

Hi mate, no.
right both wii`s are PAL systems.
one wii had DMS one had D2b but its nothing to do with the drive, as i have swapped them out before now, any drive will work in any WII. (and i tried that also with drive / different drive / no drive = blackscreen)
theres definatly something unique about the NAND (whats contained on it) and the Mainboard. (CPU possibly?) This isnt really my area.

each flash will contain a unique system id which is more than likely stored in the cpu and maybe even the ram. All new cpus have this ability. I do find it odd that the drive doesnt have it aswell. But then again its not as if you can go out and buy the wiis drive off the shelf lol. All consoles this generation use them. Makes getting kernal access and stuff bloody hard.
edit: Just looked cpu is made by IBM and so it looks to be the exact same type of security that we can see in 360s and ps3s.

yes, i assumed something like that, but, being the adventurous type, i thought i`d give it a shot. ;)
you should have your wii by tomorrow bud ;)
EDIT : just some thoughts about this, the two wiis i had here, although same region, i am presuming they where different board revision, (on examination the REV numbers where different / component layout) however who knows, maybe somone else could try it (my only problem with the process was the small mountain of screws i had from each wii................

could it be that the nand is somehow locked to the wii when the user first turns the machine on and sets the region and video modes etc? maybe you would have different results with a completely virgin wii.

Like i say its not really my area, but from what people have said, and what i have read, NANDs can have securitys etc etc. Need people like arakon and those clever fellows over at xboxhacker to continue this sort of stuff, maybe xboxhacker will have a wii forum? would nice to see (and read) ;)
tiz as far as i can go for now, until my new (third) rework station arrives ;)
