I recently tried printing out a label for my backed up game. The game worked fine before hand, but after putting the label on, the disk wouldn't play. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem? More importantly, has anyone else been able to print labels and still have the disk work?
Thanks.

yeh, it wouldnt. It wont work, as it would make the disc thick. Those you see on the web with labels on the discs have been printed on, not stuck on.

Stuck-on labels are evil.
They change the centre of mass of the disc if applied even a fraction off centre. Also they look nasty compared to printable discs (which are very cheap and ideal if you have a printer which can print to disc).
My advice is to bin that disc and burn another one.

Yeah, I just ordered a lightscribe DVD burner. Hopefully that will work out fine. Anyone know the results of games with the image burned in with LS??

Afaik all lightscribe discs are DVD+R, which is fine if you have Wiikey but I think for the others you have to change the booktype to DVD-ROM when you burn as they're not fully compatible.

I don't think this is the case...
First, I thought the version 3 of cyclowiz supported the playback of DVD+R?
Second, from the spec. sheet... "ATAPI / E-IDE Half-Height internal DVD+R / DVD+RW / DVD-R / DVD-RW / DVD+R9 / DVD-R9 / DVD-RAM / DVD-ROM / CD-R / CD-RW / CD-ROM combination drive"

Third, they do have DVD-R LightScribe disks available.

Changing booktype is ROM is not a problem, it really is trivial and has no negative side effects.
Cyclowiz 3 update allows +R natively though.

Ah ok, I haven't been keeping up on Cyclowiz updates cause I use Wiikey ;)
I don't keep up with lightscribe either cause I don't have a compatible burner :(
I don't understand the spec sheet thing though, I was just saying most (or at least some) mod chips don't support DVD+R...

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the burner to arrive. Getting excited, I'm hoping it doesn't turn out looking like crap. They've got some real nice pics that they've done with it, but there's no color, it's all just monochromatic. Not sure how it's gonna look when it's printed out, but it can't look worse than the hand printed sharpie that I got going on now. Anyway, should be just a few more days and we'll see.

I used to use labels but they do suck. Now I purchased a Canon Pixma IP4300 that prints directly on DVD/CDR, and along with the TY Water Shield Glossy printable DVD-R discs you can make beautiful backups of your games. You can find very professional looking disc covers at www.console-covers.com.
My discs look better than the real thing!

I wouldn't bother with Lightscribe, the discs are more expensive, they take ages to burn the image and it's only one colour! It's more of a novelty that anything else. It might be worth your while spending some money on a good Canon printer that can print directly onto the discs.
I also agree that sticky labels are very bad. I print directly onto my discs and never have a problem.

I've found lightscribe disks for as cheap as 0.49 each (100 pack spindle). So the cost on that isn't that much more. A new printer however... Right now I have two perfectly good canon printers (MP390 and PIXMA MP500) and can't see myself buying another one for a long time to come. I just want something to make the disk labels a little nicer. A CD printer would be nice, but just can't justify the buy to the wife right now. Maybe next tax return...
