Hi Guys,
Ive done plenty of forum searching and although you often come across individuals who recommend using thicker wire for VCC and GND when doing a wii mod install no-one so far has given any detailed technical reason for this other than personal preference or good practice.

I get the whole reasoning behind this. The wires carry higher voltages/current and as such thin wires might overheat. But can anyone give a more scientific reason behind this. We're expecting 3.3 Volts is it; at what sort of current is this? Are there any specs on 30awg to say what it should be able to handle?

Thicker wire is not needed. 30awg will work fine for all of the points.

I did my install with 30awg wire also after seeing other do the same with good results. My results are also that it simply works fine.

Guess if you have the thicker wire, why not use it. I didn't have it and it's not worth the costs to get it.

Thanks its good to get the final word on this, especially from such a highly rated member :)

Is this advise equally valid when doing external socket mods which typically involve a lot longer lengths of the kynar?

I do external and use 30 right through witout issues.

30 is the best to use, easiest to work with and gives the same results as larger gauge wire.
