I have a strange problem with my modded wii.
It's got a OpenWii in it, and has worked fine up until now, but after playing an original game and popping in a backup afterwards, backups have been displaying in black and white since today. The screen also flickers.

This is not a tv problem, since going back to the wii menu instantly stops the flickering and restores colours. The problem is also there for same-region backups, so it doesn't seem to be a regional display settings problem.
As i said, originals are working just fine.

Has anyone had this problem before? i remember it occurring once and going away after leaving the wii off for some time, and i hope it will stop this time as well, but i can't help but think that this indicates some kind of damage to the gpu.

It sounds like a pal/ntsc issue. It may be forcing the wii into pal mode for some reason.

What backups are you trying to run? So it only does this with backups, what about originals?

I have a PAL wii, and this problem occurs with both PAL and NTSC backups. The first time it occurred was also with a PAL game, so it seems this isn't about PAL/NTSC - although the symptoms do sound alike.
As far as i know, my tv has supported PAL and NTSC signals in both 50Hz and 60Hz in the past.
Originals work fine though (I don't have any NTSC originals to test with, but PAL works fine).

I haven't touched the console for a while, im hoping this problem will just go away if i wait a bit.

EDIT: today the problem occurred with Madden '07 PAL backup, after having played Raving Rabbids PAL original. I tested another PAL backup after that, not sure which, and it gave the same problem. A PAL GC original and the same Raving Rabbids original worked fine afterwards, but the backups didn't.

Well, as i hoped, after waiting a while the backups work fine again. Still strange that this problem occurs sometimes...
