I recently swappd out my wii motherboard with another (from a PAL to and NTSC one), and I had a cyclowiz installed with the PAL 3.0b patch. Then I read on the cyclowiz homepage that you ca't swap out a drive/motherboad because the flash procedure reads some values from my motherboard and drive. Can I not just flash over the ntsc patch?

Does it mean that if my wii was damaged and I got another wii I couldn't swap out the cylowiz? Does it mean that the cyclowiz is only suitable for a one time install on a single machine? Do other modchips have this problem?

I think they are talking about the dvd drive, not the motherboard. You should prob contact cyclops and ask them about your specific question, but as far as it being locked to your wii, no thats not true.

I'm using my original drive with cyclowiz installed (V3) in a brand new system with no problems, think the problem only occurs if you upgrade the chip then take it out and install it in a new drive.

The orignal drive had the cyclowiz fitted to it, and I moved it wholesale to a NTSC machine, (NTSC machine's drive is messed up - not by me!:D ) and I had the PAL 3.0b flashed onto it.

After I put the NTSC machine together, tested all connections etc, it powered up and works with original NTSC games, but only once the cyclowiz is disabled (holding reset). Other times the discs can't be recognised, even NTSC originals. Then I remembered about flashing the cylowiz with the PAL 3.0b update, but I read on the cylowiz site that you shouldn't move it from one to another.

I was gonna just overwrite/flash the thing with the NTSC 3.0b but I think it can't read discs in it's current state unless they are orignal and the cyclowiz disabled! maybe thats why they say you shouldn't move it as the only way to flash the thing is via the drive..

I'll try and clarify with team cyclops and get back here if they reply.

Must be to do with the PAL/NTSC thing I would've thought then, both my machines are PAL.
