I've just ordered a qoob sx and pro from eurasia, the status just changed to shipped today so I'm expecting the chips in the next two weeks. If you can wait that long i'll do a full review from the perspective of a Q owner.

i am little bit ahead of you...recieved pro couple of days ago and Q today.. (little bit impatient) Since I have absolute no skill in soldering i will probably find someone that can mod this (i am in korea btw.. and there is relatively small gc community here) I will try to find someone who can mod it without screwing up... i will probably have to print the diagram and show it to the shop... anyway if i get this one modded successfully i will let the forum know... or i might try to be safe and wait for your review first:D

remember you dont need to install the lid bypass wires on the Q. Only the wires that are soldered directly on the moo. show the 1.2 nfo to whoever is installing it.

I have just installed a Qoob Pro into my Panasonic Q and can confirm that it works in the Q perfectly well. The Qoob recognises the system as a SL-GC10.

The installation itself was quite straightforward, it took me a lot longer just to disassemble the Q. There are a lot of different boards to take out before finally getting to the GC motherboard right at the bottom of the Q, and a lot of ribbon connctors to connect back in afterwards!

The drive in the Panasonic Q seems to be a lot better compared with the one in my basic GC, it has managed to read everything I've tried, even low quality 8cm DVD-Rs which wouldn't work in the standard GC. I'll be doing more testing to see if I can run multigame discs with the full 4.3GB capacity.

Was your panasonic Q region modded before you put the Qoob chip in? could it play all region dvds?

Pal games will always be B/W unless you either:

hold b and select 60hz when the pal game starts up, (if you use svideo or yellow composite) OR

buy the digital out cable and mod it to output rgb scart (see the atarilabs forums)

now that the qoob bios 1.3 can promote Pal games to use the progressive mode, do they automatically come out colour, or does the b button need to be held down?

can the qoob bios be set to display progressive mode by default?

I would check myself but i'm still waiting for my Qoob chipS to arrive :)

DVD still seems to function, i don't see why it shouldn't. The Qoob is only connected to the GC motherboard and this only powers up, thus powering the Qoob only when the Panasonic Q is switched to Gamecube mode. When in DVD mode the Qoob chip should not be active therefore not affecting DVD playback. What problems are you having with DVD playback?

PAL games appear in colour for me, as I use a modded component cable giving RGB scart. I seem to get everything I've tried in colour. However, when US games are forced to PAL mode (with BIOS 1.3) the picture is shifted halfway up the screen.

i will prolly get Q modded this weekend... quick question though... as someone mentioned before i should not connect lid wire(?)... after looking at diagram for the install i am hard time what color wire is lid wire?

also diagram also stated bridge two pins (does that mean i have to connect two circular silver things that's underneath black line on the diagram?)

and where do i use bronze strip?

and is there a place that i could pull out usb cable?

sorry for so many questions but i really need to know everything before i explain stuff to the modder....

mintyfresh or souzar(if you have got qoob chip and modded it) it would be great if you guys could post some pictures

thanx

The lid wires are the blue wires with a connector at the end, you can just leave these unconnected to anything.

"Bridging the two pins" just means you need to solder these two points together ie. make a connection between the two points.

The bronze strip connects the qoob chip to the usb connector board. I fed this strip thorugh the botom of the gamecube so the usb port can be easily accessed.

i also get a click sound when i turn on the Q... is this sound coming from qoob? i hope i didnt mess anything...

The tray must be closed when booting, otherwise the "check lid switch"-message comes up. There's no way to connect the lidswitch.

The clicking sound is normal on Q, with or without qoob. I guess it's some relay switching something.

so this means... i have restart every single tme? or could i load to goob bios then insert the game? (and is there anyway to make bios not to autoload the dvd?) thanx

another question... since Q does not have lid sensor will it support multidisk games? like RE series?

thanx

To load a new disc, you have to restart.

To not autoload the disc, hold 'B' button (not sure if this is what you want)

Yes, the Q supports multidisc games. It has a lid sensor (connected to the tray), i just won't get overridden in the boot process, which is not required.

does anyone know what error F-76 is? i fitted my Q with a qoob and flashed with qoob bios 1.3. Now, whenever i press the power button or hit the dvd play button on the top of the Q the lcd displays Hello, then quickly gives F-76. The blue backlight does not come on either. I completely removed the Qoob, un-bridged the 2 points on the motherborad and reassembled... still F76. I thought it might be a blown fuse or something, but i also swapped that out and still F76. What the hell is F-76?

You probably left a cable disconnected while reassembling the Q.

Are you sure that no socket is left unconnected? There are tons of cables inside the Q, each having a different size (so that's the good point - you can't mix them). Some of them like to hide between other cables ;)

This is the same error I received when I disasembled my Panasonic Q. To this day i still dont know what exactly it is.

i must've disassembled and reassembled this thing about 5 times over again... all cables are properly connected and still the same error. I don't think its a power issue, otherwise the lcd prob wouldn't come on.... still, i am dying to find a way to get this thing back up and running.

well i suppose i can consider this Q to be "dead" at this point. I just finished cleaning the contacts of all the ribbon and power cables, using a can of compressed air to air-blow the ribbon and power connectors, and using a multimeter to test for any power loss along the power supply and the vertical board on the right... still no go.

I do have a question though - to those of you who have run into error F76, what does your ribbon cable going from the dvdrom to the GC motherboard look like? The first time i opened my Q up, the cable looked pretty beat up to me. Having messed around with data ribbon cables before, I know these things are pretty sturdy, but this one looked tweaked to hell. I am wondering if this could have anything to do with F76. Judging from the fact that the Q generates the error whether you press the Power button, Game button, or DVD/CD top button, I would think that the problem must be in some component that is common to both the dvd player and the GC. The only components that they really share in common are the power supply, the vertical video out board, and the dvd drive. However, during the most recent go at it, all of these components were checked for dust, connectivity, and any other thing that could possibly be wrong... they all check out fine.

Also - to those with error F76, has your Q been modded with either the JPN/USA gamecube mod, the all-region dvd mod, or both? This Q i am using has a chip installed on the power PCB on the front panel for the JPN/USA GC boot, with a single wire leading from the chip to the GC motherboard where it is soldered to a point on the back of the board. The dvd player has also been fitted with what looks like 2 chips for the multi-region hack.

Oh well... i guess its time to hit up ebay for another Q.

are you talking about thick grey ribbon? mine seems to be kinda beat up too... (i have no error with cube) so i dont think appearance of the cable should make u worry....

anyway do you know where i can find the pot for Q? i just want measure the ohm and i cant find them anywhere (i looked at two small boards attached to lens drive.... maybe i should look some where else? and also i heard there are two pots.... any idea how idenitfy one from another?)

I've finally gotten around to taking pics and preping the broken panasonic Q for sale on ebay starting at $10. Just fyi: it generates error F-76 when you power on, but otherwise is in immaculate condition. If interested please email me or visit the auction page directly here:

it has to do somethink with the power, if you disconnect only the qoop it will work fine, if it is connected not.

is the qoop eating so much power that the powersupply is cutting the power?

i think it is so...

i fitted a pal maother board in may q, but still the same problem. if someone is intrested in this mod i'll post the link.

Hi everyone.

I hope that some people are still aware or checking this posts.

I have a modded Panasonic Q since 2004 and I´m starting to experience problems with the machine not reading DVD´s and games.

I´ve tried to clean up the laser with one of those "cleaning-cd´s" that have kind of fur under them. Sometimes, with a single play of that CD the Q starts reading without giving major problems, but lately it doesn´t reads anything, and I must play the cleaning cd several times before it reads something, and when I turn it off and on again the same day or next, it doesn´t read again.

Does anyone knows how to properly clean it? Or could someone post a diagram or blue print of how to open it so I can clean the laser manually??

I hope someone can help me... Thanks.

You just need to adjust the laser pot, should be some guides for it here.
