I've installed qoob pro chip, all is working good. The status led is on, the qoob menu appears (i've flashed bios with 1.20 rel) but i've burned 3 games (Final fantasy cristal - the new resident evil and so on) but no one starts. For some games i've a black screen, others starts but they hang at the introduction. I've burned games onto Memorex 1x-4x Mini DVD-R. The iso images were "prepared" by others so they are not bad.
Do you think it's a laser problem? a chip problem? or a media support problem? I've to tweak the laser?
Please help me to understand this prob.
Thanks

I would definetly suggest tweaking the laser to a lower value around 220ish ohm.
that would seem to be likely. Also which burner are you using? try it without burnproof and make sure to burn those memorex ones at 1 or 2x only. I have tried them and they work at 4x but its probably the kickass NEC burner doing its thing.
if you do go ahead and tweak ur laser follow brakken's Mod Dat Cube guide, its linked in the Viper GC forum sticky.

Please can u give me the link of the tutorial to tweak laser?
Thanks

Make sure you finalize the disc!

check the mediacode of the disks using dvdinfopro or dvddecrypter
Hey Diego69 ... not that I'm an expert but you sound like you have reached the same point I was at the other day (see my help request post on the main Qoob forum page).
When I reached this point, I decided I had three options:
(1) Get better media.
(2) Tweak my laser.
(3) Get a better burner.
First of all getting better media is easy. Search the forum here and find a brand that uses the G04 dye. I understand the Memorex Mini-DVDs do not use the best dye. My first purchase was this brand and I took the package back to Best Buy and got a refund. Not sure where you are but I'm getting my Mini DVD-Rs at the local Office Depot (C$25 for a 10-pack). Blankmedia.ca is also another place you can order from. They are in Canada and with delivery runs about the same price as Office Depot.
When burning, try to use Nero Ultra 6.6 and ensure you finalize the disk. It is very easy ... find the .gcm file on your hard drive (make sure it is a full 1.4gigs), change the file extension to .iso, right click and say open with Nero Burning Rom. This takes you right into Nero, check off finalize disk and click burn. At 2x writing, you will have a backup in less than 10 minutes!
Next I had to tweak my laser. To do this you will need a basic multimeter. You can get one at Radioshack or Canadian Tire (or similar store). I picked up a digital one for C$10 at CanTire. Open up your Cube again, unscrew the laser housing (metal plate) and you will see a small silver pot (about the size of pencil eraser). Use the multimeter to check the ohms. It will most likely be around 600 (mine was 585). Take a small screwdriver and turn counter-clockwise (less than a quarter turn). Check ohm reading again. Adjust until you are around 200 (I settled on 205). Close up your Cube and make sure your soldering stays attached (that damn red wire keeps popping off on me when I open things up!). Plug your Cube in and make sure it fires up to the Qoob screen again. Voila ... your pot tweak is done!
At this point, I successfully ran several backup disks with no errors.
If all this doesn't work than it is most likely a crappy burner but this should be your last resort (as it is the most costly option). If necessary, I was going to pick up a Pioneer 109 as it is only C$90. But after getting the right media and tweaking your laser you should be good to go.
I have tested 6 backups now and have yet to run into any DREs since tweaking.
Good luck!

LOL!!! This is too great to tell you. I've tried to open the case, i've burned games onto Verbatim 4x dvd-r, the same games that didn't start with mini dvd-r. I put the dvd and......WOW the game starts....too incredible..i was going mad searching for ritek and with my old 4x verbatim dvd-r i've solved the problem. Now i've to buy a DVD-R new case for the GC.

yeah, full size dvd-rs have less read errors then mini's.
However, you need to play a game for a while to eensure it runns flawless.
ssimply booting it up doesnt give much certainty
