View Full Version : JAP Games on Qoobed Cube?

Now that I have my Qoob up and running, I am trying to figure out if it helps me run Mr Driller (JAP) (true disk, not backup) on my USA NTSC Cube.

Currently, I use Action Replay / Freeloader to run this game and it works fine (except this game has an issue saving - documented issue).

With the Qoob installed and running, does my Cube still think it is a USA model or is it now "open"? Would it help with the save issue now encountered using Action Replay / Freeloader?

Thanks in advance,
CLK

You will need a USA memory card to save your japanese game. I have a japanese gamecube and when I tried saving an USA game, I needed a memory card formatted with a japanese gamecube. I tried using a USA formatted memory card but it would not take it. Both types of saves can exist in one memory card. You just have to remember that you need the memory card formatted to the region of the console unit. (i.e. japanese formatted or US formatted)

that's not even needed for me. I can put all saves of any region next to eachother. No formatting needed or happening

That is true for but a few games...

The problem with Mr.Driller and some other JPN games is that when those games check for the memory card, it is searching for a JPN formatted card. If it doesn't find one, it declares the card that is inserted as corrupted... nothing else.

All you have to do is fit a switch to your cube, set it in JPN mode and format a card and keep it aside as your JPN memory card for Mr. Driller and Donkey Konga...

Now if qoob/cobra supported patching the machine's bios into the JPN one, the switch wouldn't be needed anymore and maybe you can view the text properly in some games as well!! (Like Kururin Paradise)...
